I hate to start another thread but I could really use some advise on picking a board. I am a 150 lb mid 40's, relative beginner that can only wake to wake and 180. I am not looking to do inverts, just advance a bit and have fun behind the boat. I have a DD with 800 lb ballast (I primarily ski) but my biggest problem is with my lower back. Hard landings don't treat me well so soft landing are a priority. Based on what I have read, a flex board sounds intriguing but I don't really know where to go with it. Any suggestions? I would like to stay under $500 with bindings if possible but can go higher if needed for a good decent setup.

Thanks in advance.

A 140-142cm board will give you softer landings.Flex boards help with pop and rail riding.Taking off on edge and landing on edge will give you the softest landing. As for a 500 dollar package, used would be the best way to go.A continuous rocker board will be the most consistent also.Good Luck!

I would recommend the Liquid Force Super Trip if you could fit it into your budget. It's a continuous rocker hybrid so the pop will be consistent and the landings will be soft with the flex of the board. If you can't swing the price of the Super Trip then just go with the regular Trip. It's the cheapest board in the LF line and would be right up your alley. For boots I would look around for a slightly used pair on the classified section. What size are you?

if you look at gear from 2012 and 2011 you should find good prices too if you prefer to buy new

if you had a board designed with a continuous rocker and another with 3 stage the continuous rocker will land softer. there is no argument there

Opinions differ on other features on what lands soft and what doesn't
flex, bottom features like belly/ center spines will also influence how a board lands, but there is no universal agreement

personally i believe flex makes a big difference as well as spines and bottom features, i just have yet to try both in a single package.

LF super trip, Humanoid oracle, obrien format : are the only boards i can think of that combine 1.continuous rocker, 2.flex, and 3.belly features in some form or fashion if you like the sound of those things
