I can do HS backrolls consistently. The Half Cab Roll is the trick I'm working at right now. Had six tries so far. I do make the rotation, but I keep losing the handle and sliding out. I guess I have to try to lean against the line towards my TS edge once I've come around on the flip. I'm feeling that I'll stick this trick soon, but if you had any tips, I would appreciate it a lot

Go out and stick a bunch of half cabs to get comfortable with the landing. I am assuming you can probably land those half cabs if your trying the half cab roll; but I went back and took them bigger and really focused on loading the line well with that switch cut. After that, just keep the handle close on the rotation for control.

Good Luck.

Tried it again today and almost stuck it. I always start my "hc roll learning routine" like this: I do a couple hs backrolls and big half cabs into the flats. Then I try the hc roll. Maybe I carry too much momentum from the switch back roll which makes me slide out. In "The Book" they say you should really underrotate the back roll part and kind of fall into the 180. I guess it's just a "feel trick" and that it is pretty easy once you've landed it a couple of times. So I'll just keep trying...

Yes, on regular and switch you under-rotate the roll portion, this allows you to land on your toes. Something that helped me learn the regular r2r (after I landed the cab r2r) was to relax and slow down. I was over-rotating the roll and skipping out on my hs edge. Once I mellowed out and tried a more mellow and natural rotation it came around nice and clean.

Tried some more HC Rolls which resulted in some good and some bad things. First the good: I almost landed it a couple of times. Just slipped out, but still had the handle and had to let go, because I slipped out onto my back. Yesterday I landed it once without the rope. I rode on for a couple yards, then sunk, because there was no handle anymore. It felt really good landing it and riding away - even without the rope. Now the bad: I've taken a couple of bad wipeouts - horrible face plants to be exact. Yesterday I took off too early and the rotation drove me down hard onto the water surface. My shoulder hurt like mad and I thought I might have broken a bone. My whole arm went numb and it felt very hot. I've had this experience before when falling bad on Tantrums (which used to be one of my most consistent tricks last season) and TS 180s, but this time the pain was tenfold. I thought I was hurt badly, but I think I was really lucky that my shoulder wasn't dislocated. My fingertips are still feeling numb today, though, and my shoulder still hurts a little, but I think I'll be on the water again today - if it stops raining... Sooner or later I'll land that sucker. I have the rotation dialed, I just need to be careful to perform a correct cut and to take off correctly and not too early.

It seems common to slide out on your heels on either rool to revert or HC. I finally learned to slow my rotation but still only land them 50% of the time. I under rotated on a big wake and broke my foot because I hit the back side of the wake going to slow.

I end up concentrating on throwing it so slow that I think I won't make it all the way around and pull hard to my back hip while leaning forward.
