Ski Nautique 2001 Boat and Wake Pics

Just recently purchased a 1987 Nautique 2001 and was curious to see some other people's 2001's and well as their wakes!

never been on or behind one, but from what i have read the 2001 throw out a good wake for the price

Congrats! I love the 2001. Have had an '85 for more than 5 years now. Almost 2400 hours (engine rebuild at 1500) and still going strong. Just had a couple nice surf sets behind it this week (don't surf very often), but the wake is what makes it just perfect.
Don't have many pics on this laptop, but here's 2.

Here is my old boat. '84 2001. These hulls throw a good wake when you put some weight in the boat. I had 2 440lbs. sacs in mine and I liked it. Not alot of storage, but its great on gas and pretty cheap on initial investment.

Thats an older thread with some pics of my old wake. They can throw a great wake but a little touchy as any low freeboard boat.

I love my 89' Of course the standard rotation the 1:23 transmission are pluses to having an 89'
I am running 300 in concrete under the bow plus 2 batteries, 550 each side of the motor and a 800 in the back. It can even tow a plane

I have an 87 and I have only one complaint no interior space and limited storage, I'm running 440 on both sides of the motor 200 in the bow it's no SAN but it's pretty respectable. Sander I don't know how you're getting your wake that awesome but I'd love to find out haha I also had zero success trying to surf my wake. Selling point for me was no boat payment and easy on gas. Here in Ohio the season is pretty limited and I didn't and still don't have the cash for SAN, in that situation a 2001 is pretty hard to beat!

We've been surfing a lot more recently, with some new friends that are big into it. Wave is really nice, on both sides. Last couple times even with only the driver in the boat. 540 in the back, 540 on surf side, 250-ish on top of the 540 on the side, and that's it. 10 mph.

What's your wakeboard wake setup? My favorite wake for sure. We run a few 85# bricks in my buddy's boat and 2 800s next to the engine.

Here is the '89 before I sold it. It was an ongoing project the whole time I had it. Never 1 problem with the engine, and I absolutely loved it. I had a 750# sac in the rear and the triangle 1000# behind the observers seat under the bow. It would only be filled half way and you would loose all the storage in the bow but it was totally worth it. I had it set up 100% for wake boarding and the wake was like a curb. Then I sold it to upgrade and started new projects all over again.

Nick, that boat is just stunning. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it was a small Air Nautique that Correct Craft was currently making. Amazing job.

Depends... I usually only have time to ride one set before or after teaching, so then I don't bother filling up any sacs. I always have about 100 lbs of tractor weight in the bow. For one quick set I usually put one concrete filled bucket (100 lbs?) in the boat.
If I have more time I fill either 1 or 2 540's up.

On another note: I wish the2001.com was still around. Anyone here who was on there? Often thinking about starting a similar site, but haven't because of lack of time (and knowledge )

I never got to go to the2001.com but heard a lot about it. I feel like as much as the people in this thread have restored or built on these boats we could probably make one hell of a similar site.

Thanks for the nice comments. I do miss my 2001 but it was on to bigger and better things. I was on the2001.com and was bummed when it stopped working, a lot of great boats on that site. The Air Nautique decals on the back were cheap ones from ebay, just contact the seller and ask if they can make what ever size you want.

Check out the correctcraftfan.com website, real knowledgeable guys on these ole boats, but a lot of them prefer to keep them original. And great place to find rebuilds on the older boats. I did a stringer job on my 79 ski nautique, all my research came from that website.

Any other 2001s out there?? Nick you wouldn't happen to have a write up or anything anywhere on that rear box would you? I was contemplating doing the same thing with mine and enclosing the 400s on the sides of the motor so you can at least walk over them. Did you plumb all your sacs in permanent or fill them up by hand with the pump? I'm guessing you were running a 750 in that back box.

No, I never did a write up on the box. It is just a couple pieces of plywood screwed together and carpeted and the hinge for the lid is screwed to the fiberglass. A 750 fit in it perfectly. I had to pumps when I filled my system and it would go really quick so there was no reason to plumb them in.

I'm on correct craft fan and have gotten a ton of good advice off there...but they're not real keen on destroying classic nautiques to make wakeboard boats and they're not real keen on wakeboarding in general so my time there is limited. hahaha

Nick, did you make your boxes by the motor as just covers with no bottoms or are they actually boxes with opening lids?

I made them mostly for just sitting on but yes the lid opened away from the motor with a hinge on it and they didn't have any bottoms, just screwed them to the floor. My anchor was in one of them and some misc stuff was in the other one. Worked great for what I had set up. 2 dudes don't want to sit one the observers seat together so you could pick a side depending on the wake/rider. I have seen some others make boxes and put 400# sacs in them on the sides of the motor but then the floor space is taken up for the rear bench seat and most people want to face the rider and watch them.

Here is my old boat/my friend's current boat. I loved the wrap around seating we did around the engine compartment. We ran three fatsacs in there and never had to step over them, plus there was a lot more seating. I was worried at first that people would fall off but there was never an issue.

The raley picture doesn't show a lot of the wake but it is enough wake to go that high.

I put my 400s square with the motor cover so youd still be able to use all the seating and actually with boxes you'd end up with more places to sit because you could sit on the box. I just hate having those bags on the floor because they're a bitch to get past. I was thinking of making boxes that open away from the motor so I'd at least be able to walk over them.

How is the surf wake on the things?

I failed miserably trying to surf mine, people do it though. Maybe the board we were using was too short.
