What's the coldest water that you've ridden in, and what were you wearing?

I am asking because I'm thinking about doing a polar bear ride next week if/when the temperature breaks 60 degrees. I only have a spring suit though, well, that is unless I can find a full length that fits (I will be wearing boardshorts OVER ). Water temp is upper 40s to low 50s.

I've ridden in 50 degree water with a spring suit. Cold but doable.

The water in let at Lake Tulloch pulls the water from the bottom of New Malonies to fill the lake. At the mouth of the in let Summer or Winter the water is 47-51. Jumping in that water "Polar Bear" style mid summer is a chilling experiance. You can appreciate how horrable it is or would be for people that fall into the freazing water.

38-40 in shorts. I was on my jet-ski and was offered a ride by some friends and didn't want to go all the way back to the campground to get my fullsuit. Fastest deepwater start I have ever done.

I did 50 degree water in a shorty wetsuit. Air temp was in the mid 60's. Cold, but we did multiple sets that day. That was April in Wisconsin last year.

I've done Air 50, water 42 in a dry suit
Air 55 ish, water 56 in a shorty
and the dumbest one (no wet or dry suit available): air 55ish, water 52, TRUNKS!
It took the rest of the day to warm up. I was starting to turn purple and slur my words when I decided to get back in the boat.

Last year we (me and a few others including Nick in the tc) went November 11th in st paul MN where the air was low 60s high 50s and the water was 38. I was wearing a 7mm diving suit and Nick was wearing a 2/2 shorty because he has to wear a knee brace. He never flicnhed once and that amazed me. Im sure I will do my yearly deal of going the first week of ice out. Water is mid 30s then too. Been doing that for years.

My room mates took a dip in our pool today then walked around the ice around the edges. I think we'll be winching next week now that the ponds are melting.

I rode the very day the ice broke about a decade ago at Prairie Lee in MO. Dry suit, scuba hood and gloves. It wasn't too bad sitting in the water but when my hood inflated with ice water during a DW start it got a bit brisk. Air temp was about 34 with sleet.

Late April with ice still on the lake in northern wisconsin, water 33 degrees, air temp 40 degrees. It is always a contest to see who is the first one the lake each year. Most years the local news paper is there to take pictures, The only rules are, no wetsuit!

I rode January 8th in 34 degree water, but the air temp was in the 60s. I had on a full suit...very cold but wasn't out there long. The snowboarding jacket and beanie were more for effect...

30 degree water, Kelley? Was it REALLY salty, or just ice? :-) If it was fresh, I would guess that water was 32 and just short of a state-change to solid...

Water temp was 37 deg and air temp was mid 60's here in Colorado yesterday. Friends rode Horsetooth for the 1st time this year. A bit too cold for me yet!

Not me, but still cold!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=rJlYkAIHmrM

There was another vid, I think on this site of a guy having to break the ice up at the launch to get the boat in. Air tmp 29, water temp 32-33. Started off of him cruising, showing frozen waterfalls then he drops in the air chair. You could see frozen blocks of ice just floating around! Absolutly crazy!

My coldest, water 58 air 78. I have a min 120 degree rule, and thats still with a wetsuit! Gotta love south tx, I didn't even know that lakes could freeze over! (jk)
