I need to drill a bigger hole to run more speaker wire in my tower. I currently have a titan tower on a malibu. What kind of drill bit am I looking for? I'm also looking for gromets (sp?) for the holes to protect the wire...any suggestions there? While I'm at it, anybody have suggestions on quick disconnects for the wire coming out of the tower before it enters the boat?
thanks
chris

If the tower is stainless steel you will need a cobalt drill bit.

You need a step bit like this:

grommets are the hard part, my tower was too thick for traditional grommets used for sheet metal and i had a hard time finding anything to work. I ended up finding funky faucet stop/grommets in the plumbing section and had make my own hole in the middle for the wires. They worked out pretty good, but they were a PITA to fit.

I'd use hard plastic grommets, they will work better than sheet metal gromets.
I actually think i used the same thing as above, small plastic hole plug, drilled out

I have done installs on my Pro Flight aluminum tower and on a Titan stainless steel tower. The aluminum tower was a breeze, had a new bit from machine shop supply store.I asked for advice at the store before I drilled the stainless steel. They said to use a cobalt bit, made for drilling s.s. and use cutting oil while drilling.I removed the tower and used a drill press and it was still extremely hard to drill the stainless. The Titan tower was on a 2009 SAN 230.

I drilled my titan with a regular bit for metal but I had to use my Electric Drill. The 18V drill could not penetrate at all.
