So my dad booked a family Disney cruise to the Caribbean. I am sure my boys will love it. My wife or I have never been on a cruise (except a crappy one to Mexico when I was 18). Any tips anything we should be aware of? Entirely new experience for us.

If you like to drink prices on board are like stadium and arena prices for booze. We now only book cruises that include drinks when booking. I don't think Disney has this. So I'd recommend what we used to do. Fill some water bottles with your favorite hard liquors and stash it in the bags you will check to your room. Then make your own mixed drinks.

The second over priced cruise expense is fastly becoming ship booked excursions. They will try to scare you by saying off ship booked excursions we won't hold the ship for you. But this is the only way we do excursions now. You can read trip advisor reviews and find some great deals. An added bonus you won't be packed in like sardines with the other cruise ship passengers on most off ship excursions.

Cruise critic has roll calls for every cruise. You should go join the roll call. You will meet some other cruisers prior to going and can join some of their off ship excursions. You have to find your cruises roll call.

We've been on over 10 cruises. They are fun but to get the most bang for your buck you really have to watch the pricing and added costs.

Some back story. My brother hates cruises. Last year had a complimentary 5 day cruise in the Caribbean from MGM on royal Caribbean. 2nd stop in Jamaica packed up his/wife’s stuff and booked a flight home.
With that said, he liked the Disney cruise with his kids. But said it was expensive…specifically the Disney island and the excursions…it was a 15k ish trip all in.

I went on a cruise ONCE. It was the most awful thing I have ever experienced. Expensive, RUDE a$$ people and everything was so crowded. We now only book sail boats or beach houses and it isn't much more money.

Pretty sure if his dad booked the cruise then dad is paying for it, right Mike? I have my own flowriding board, so I have only been going on Royal Caribbean which has the flowrider machine and go to the Caribbean Islands. I am on the flowrider everyday. If you only go to the Island for a half day, do the ships excursion, but if you are there all day, you can do the cheaper local excursion in the morning. When Royal Caribbean docked at their island, one excursion which we did not book cost a couple hundred dollars and we could see the sailboat just went a few hundred ft from the ship and stopped right there to let the people snorkel! We brought our snorkels and probably could have swam out where they were! All of the islands are different, I do not like going to San Juan, St kitts, or Nassau(Beach was terrible!) We don't buy the drink plan, you can go to the cafeteria at any time and get tea, lemonade, or fruit punch for free. We are going again the week before next Christmas.
I am Not buying nursing home insurance! I am just going to go on a never ending cruise, much cheaper!

I have been on the Disney cruise 4 times. Each time was better than the last. We had a large group (daughters dance team) so that made it really fun. If you have ever been to a Disney park and know that they don't miss a beat it is ramped up on the cruise. If your kids like the characters they are in for a treat - they are everywhere and very accessible. You may even bump into them in the hallway as we did with Minnie one day. Just us and her with a handler.

The kid amenities are the best (It is Disney after all) We had to drag our kids out of the kids clubs for dinner and at the end of each night they did not want to leave those areas. Those areas are open late if you stay in the bars and clubs. The shows and food are also top notch.

Drinks are expensive but that is the case on any cruise. Do not try to being alcohol it will be confiscated before you leave the terminal. I know this from personal experience - security is tight when you board. They will return it to you when you return though.

Excursions with Disney can be pricey. The Atlantis resort in Nassau has an amazing water park, beaches, aquarium, etc. Just grab a cab for 20 bucks with your crew and head over. They also have a casino - Disney ships do not.

To do the water park book a hotel room at the Comfort Inn located adjacent to the Atlantis. The room will come with 4 passes to the water park and pool areas. We did this every time and each time the Comfort Inn never even gave us room keys just our wrist bands. The price the room when we went was about $100 so way cheaper than doing this excursion through Disney. I think when we went it was around $79 per person with Disney.

Nassau has alot of shopping and the duty free shopping area is crazy. We had a lot of friends just stay on the ship or go shopping in Nassau but the Atlantis can't be beat.

Disney's private island is very fun and the snorkeling and renting water bikes etc are all worth while in my opinion.

Thanks for the info. I have posted on a couple forums and mostly positive feedback. My dad loves Disney and I have two young boys 2 and 4 so this seems to be right up everyone's alley. Anyone do the 5k around the Disney island? Looking forward to doing that. Thanks again, Mike
