My speakers are 90 watts RMS. Is it ok to get an amplifier that pushes 100 watts RMS?

you can turn down the gain on the amp. or just don't turn up the volume too loud.

What kind of amp. Some amps will not really push what they are saying they will. The better the amp the more tru power they will push. For instnce those cheap Wal-Mart or Best Buy amps might say 1000 or 1500 watts but they will not do that. JL has good true power. However, even Fosgate are somewhat over rated with power. Not much but some. I would say you are good.

Look at the specs on the amp to see what it is rated at for voltage. More than likely the 100 watts RMS is at 14.4v and it will be substantially less at 12.5 v which is where you will do a lot of listening on a boat with the engine shut off.

Some amps like JL Audio are rated to put out the same power over a range of voltage and ohm loads.

It's always better to over power a speaker and adjust the gains than to underpower and have to turn an amp all the way up where it is more likely to clip and cause speaker damage.
