twhat wakeskate to get

i am thinking about getting into wakeskating i have just been wakeboarding but i think wakeskating would be pretty fun so i was wondering what kind of board to get and what size and that stuff im 6ft. 4in. and weigh 170lbs

I started on the O'Brien Traffic Grip 113 and loved it but it's a flat deck and I grew out of it pretty quick but it's a great starter board imo

mike the 08 LF faction 42 or maybe the 44 would be a good choice. only 100 bucks and they are wider this year. the hype decks are super narrow and way too long, even for a tall guy like you

learned on a catalyst and love my catalyst. buywake.com has the 116 on sale, which would be a good size for you.

yeah go look at the gator boards they are so sick, and i think there is a couple good starter boards.
i have the ryan doyle 06 and its one of the best boards i have had.

NICK, the 116 scape is 46"!!! that is huge. too big for anyone under 250. and that board is really narrow, you have to ride it like a wakeboard if you dont want your toes dragging while you edge. the 112 is 45 inches and that is still too big for mike.

gator does have quality product as well, but their composite boards will float away if you dont watch them.

i weigh 150 and my 112 is perfect. of course, that could just be because of my riding style. i don't know.

NICK, it always comes down to personally preferance. if you want a w2w board, you can not beat the catalyst. but because of the boards size and shape i find it limiting besides w2w.

everyone will eventually find what suites them best, but i would not suggest buying a catalyst for your first board. it is for a certain style while a cheap flat deck will let you develope your own style and figure out what you want in a board before throwing down 200 on a cut down wakeboard

Does anyone have any input on foam vs. grip tape for beginners? I have had a hard time finding a board that looks good and is fairly cheap in grip tape. This would be my first board and coming from a small skateboarding background, grip tape just seems like a no brainer -- foam seems like it would be really weird.

you just take of the foam and by the griptape from a skateshop and grip it. beginners are usually afraid of grip at first, but they always go to grip because foam is super sticky and its hard to move your feet. also you rarely fall on the board and get grip burn anyways.

How hard is that to do? Could a novice easily do it? No chance of ruining the board?

you just leave the deck in the sun or use a blow dryer and the glue loosens. then peel it up. after that it just like a skateboard. i just gripped my deck today
