Hey....I have a group of friends that want to go camping for Friday night (8/22/03) and then board all day Sat. Which lake should we go to? We'll be pulling from the San Jose/Livermore area.

Things I'd like to know are water quality(butterness), campsite conditions (trees/shade,etc.), driving time, any of you being there, etc.

Thx everyone!

well ive only been to melones and don pedro, and here what i ahve to say about them-

perdo has better camping than melones, is less choppy most of the time, and the lake is smaller. NO DOGS IN CAMP AREA

melones has a few good camping spots, but ALL the good ones are taken by 12. the lake is VERY busy and a little more choppy, a little bigger to so u might be able to find a nice cove. the water is like glass after 5 though.

I would prefer pedro if u have no dog, melones is still good though dont get me wrong.

Melones is always the choice for me. It is free to get in and the only thing you have to pay for is camping. The water is sweet if you can get in the right coves or ride in the morning or in the evening.

For water quality...Hogans. Melones and Pedro attract a lot more boats and they usually get blown out around noon. Hogans has a few narrow areas you can ride in most of the time. They have boat access camping which is great too.
