this is probably a dumb question but here it goes anyway. are you guys just renting them or do you live on them. if you live on them do you have to own land on the lake to park it or how does it work.

Richard, we rented our houseboat. But I believe if you own one, you have to pay for an annual permit to keep it at your lake. I also hear that the waiting list to obtain a permit is very long. That's all I know. Wish I could help more.

I always thought Shasta had blueish, aqua colored water? Or am I mistaking that lake with something else. Still looks like heaven either way.

Santa's reindeer are swimming away from the north pole. I've never seen that before..deer swimming on by the boats and not afraid of the people.

Shasta Lake is located in Redding, California (NorCaL 2 hours from Sacrament). Richard there are a ton of houseboats that you can rent, Some people own them and store them at a moore at the diffrent resorts. Pierce, It all depends on where you go the lake is so big it has diffrent waters colors and stuff.

Richard:

Lake Shasta in CA is one of the few lakes that require a permit to moor your houseboat at any of the marina's. The permit is around $10,000.00+. Shasta has no more permits available. Therefore if you wanted to purchase a houseboat you would have to purchase one that is being sold with the permit. There are alot of houseboat owners who want to sell their houseboat and keep their permit but what they are doing is replacing their old houseboat with a new one.

We did not see any WW's on the lake, wish we did run into some of you. We were in Little Backbone, but we did see Rene and his family and they spent two days with us on the houseboat.

Stef, we will be there in August too, let's meet up. We saw Christi's truck at Bridge Bay and heard that Mikey was wondering where we were at. Sorry that we missed you all.

Hi Kimmy, sounds good about August. I didn't even know you guys were up there!!! We went to backbone once and must have missed you...

We didn't see Christie and her crew during the entire trip. We were on the other side of the lake with another crew.

Did you guys houseboat or camp?

that water is greener than Lake Elsinore. Super smooth though.

Pierce: you may be thinking of Bullard's Bar Reservoir.

Shasta was the best experience of my life. Totally insane. I want to go back so bad. In fact my girlfriend is there this week on a trip with her dad and his coworkers. :-( O how I envy her.

Bennett, I'm totally with you on this one. Shasta was one of the most relaxing trips I have ever taken. if I could, I would make my way up there once or twice a month. The four hour drive each way makes for a long weekend though!
