So I've just bought a house with a pool and nice rock waterfall. Well, long story short the wifey (geologist by profession) thinks they look fake, mostly because of the color and mineral scaling. Has anybody had gunite rocks re-stained or re-done? I'm not even sure of what my options are at this point. The ledge does have some cracks, albeit hairline and below the waterline is beginning to lose some material off the surface when scrubbed with a nylon brush.

I'm already looking at $2k to get the pool replastered. Should I suckitup and get it done at the same time? I have a feeling I'm going to get taken to the cleaners if I do... Any chance this could be a DIY and have it look halfway decent? I'll post a pic if it ever quits raining.

I had my front porch stained to look like rock. I think it looks good. A geologist might or might not think so.

I guess it depends on what they look like, I have had mine seven years and I think they still look ok they tend to fade in spots but I seal mine every other year and the scaling can be taken off. What I do is fill a cheap spray bottle with 100% muratic and spray it directly on the calcium and it should foam away with no scrubbing just keep spraying until it disolves it then rinse with water. As for having them redone its was tough for us to find the right guy and they are all the artist type so you have to make sure you can explain exactly what your looking for. I think my profile may have a pic of mine.

Here are the rocks in question. Previous owner used white silicone to seal the vertical cracks on the ledge.

who is doing replaster for $2000?
My pool is 24,000 gallons and I was thinking more like $4-5k for re-plaster

Is this a salt pool? I would have thought that the spots on the front were calcium build up which can be sprayed with acid until it dissolves. The rocks are discoloring and there is not that much so it may just be the right time to add pebble tech and repaint the rocks.

Good luck either way and nice yard.
