How long until they have to give up the BCS Title (I refuse to call it a national championship) and Cam has to give back the Heisman? I would love to see a playoff or at least a +1.
I don't keep up with college football . i do like to watch the bowl games. i do live in virginia and hear about how GOOD virginia tech is all the time. well they got their arse handed to them by stanford. as for last nights game the only time i've seen either team play and AUBURN was the better team on both sides of the ball.i to was suprised that OREGON made it close at the end.i saw alot of team speed on OREGON and thats what helped at the end . that #21 james looked like a good rb.i think the better overall talented team one. that may have only been true last night.but thats what i saw.
I don't understand how it is a "mythical national championship". Correct me if I am wrong, but there has never been a playoff in major college football. So does this mean that you do not recognize any former national champion? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a playoff as much as anyone, but I think Auburn is the undisputed national champion of college football for this year. The only team that may have a gripe is TCU. But Auburn's strength of schedule was much more higher than TCU's. How awesome would it be if Auburn and TCU were squaring off next Monday?

"Mythical national champion" is a term used since before 1940 for a championship won by a NCAA Division I football team, especially for titles won before the current Bowl Championship Series (BCS) system began in 1998. Before the BCS, polls in which coaches and/or sportwriters voted, such as the AP, UPI, and USA Today polls, awarded championships. This led to seasons in which two or even more teams could claim to have won a national championship.
The BCS attempts to eliminate uncertainty by ranking college teams and inviting the top two teams at the end of the regular season to play in a championship game. These teams are determined by the BCS ranking formula, which itself uses a combination of human voter polls and computer rankings. The process of selecting the two best teams for the BCS championship game has, nonetheless, resulted in controversy almost every season of its existence.
my only problem with the game last night was at the end when the Auburn player was tackled but not down. Years ago, the other players would have just piled on, making sure that he was down. Now, for safety, if that happens, the defense would get flagged and 15 yards would be walked off. I'm not sure that there is really anything that can be done, but the modern day roughing calls have changed the game. It's to bad that that situation might well have affected the outcome. I might go out on a limb and say that if the runner stops running after a situation like that, the whistle should be blown......I don't know...
exactly Cliff. these players today are so afraid of getting flagged for the 15 yarder, they dont know what to do. playing to the whistle still might get you flagged. I also thought the players wrist hit the ground, which I thought meant he was down. either way, good defensive game, and as much as I would like to see a playoff system, Auburn is the national champ.
does anyone know why Casey Mathews was flagged after he knocked the ball away from Cam Newton late in the game? I never saw him do anything that would have warranted a penalty. it did not matter anyways, but it was bugging me that they did not show the penalty.
Craig, #90 is Fairley and he is a top 5 pick in the draft. What did he do besides murder dog the Oregon Oline read option? That guy is a strait beast.
AMEN!!!!
WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!
And on a side note... If anyone watchs ESPN or the news all allegations against Cam have been dropped and if there was any possible way of a Reggie Bush repeat he would have never got the votes!
As a former Auburn Athlete I say CONGRATS TO THE WHOLE TEAM WE DESERVE THIS ONE!!!
bush is a deusch, leinart is a deusch, mike williams is a deusch, pete carroll is a deusch, lendale white is a deusch. the list goes on at USC. I am sure all the programs have dbags like these guys on their teams.

I'm glad i don't get this involved in college football. i guess the nfl is enough stress.i enjoyed the game because i didn't care who won or whether or not they acted like a beast. i enjoyed the effort these guys displayed. it was like they wanted to prove how good they were. not like the nfl where they act like they aren't getting paid enough.but just like the game i can read this thread any hear the bias and sour grapes. why not enjoy the effort and be glad your team is among the tops in the nation.
I think that Oregons offense is still better than Auburns. However, Auburns D cordinator did an excellent job of game planning and mitigating the Ducks O. Kelley is arrogant and that got the better of him when he went for it on 4th and goal. He should have taken the points there, it would have changed how the end of the game was handled and quite possibly the outcome.
There absolutley should be a playoff with at least the top 4 teams both TCU and Stanford deserve a shot after their perfomances.
It was always odd to me how quickly everything went with Cam Newton with regards to the aligations against him. It should be interesting as we move forward to see if they are ever brought up again.

I agree with the idea of a playoff. Using the bowl games to get there but it would be hard to sell tickets to the same fans 3-4 weeks in a row.
BUT I'm not sure i agree that TCU and Stanford "deserve" a shot. Its all done by strength of schedule and CLEARLY Auburn and Oregon were the 2 best teams this year! IMO
mythical national championship ? Really? Talk about a sh*t stir king. Joe are you upset that none of the media baby's in the PAC 4 can overcome the propaganda war? Everyone on the west coast was suspiciously quiet on the College Football threads while the SEC once again dominated most of your teams.
BTW .... thugs on every team do that kinda dirty play. We just don't see most of it. Has anybody else here played college football? Please chime in.
One more thing.... these pansy ass rules about no celebration and over sensitive "saftey" calls are BS

don't get all bitter w/ me. i didn't come up w/ the "mythical" name. that's just what it's been labeled as since before you were born.

Gene, the length of the college football threads isn't what it used to be, and I don't think you can blame any person or region for this. It's just getting stale having the same 5 people express the EXACT same opinions every single year (oh, you're calling us the 'Pac 4' how shocking!). Nothing here ever changes, ever. And I know I'm just as guilty as everyone else for this. But I wouldn't say that it has anything to do with anyone hiding from anything.
It's funny, though, how high and mighty you are towards everyone in California because your conference (what team do you follow again?) has produced a bunch of MNC winners...yet you somehow haven't heard the term Mythical National Champion before? I almost find it hard to believe, but then...nah, it's exactly how I figured that you would be.
Also, with regards to Cam Newton, it looks like things could get messy. Here's a thread that seems to have a massive amount of allegations which, if true, would absolutely ruin Auburn's athletic department and maybe even the school. http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/M...=22778676&Pg=1

This goes way beyond Cam. They say the FBI, while monitoring the Bingo mess in Montgomery and also investigating the misappropriation of TARP funds by Colonial Bank, uncovered many, many things. Such things include guaranteed winning slot machines for AU players at Milt’s (Colonial Board member, AU Booster) Casino, unmarked ATM cards issued to AU players from Colonial Bank (Bobby Lowder-AU Board Member and Booster; Pat Dye-Colonial Board member, AU employee and Booster), forgiven loans to families, friends, donors, etc.

The Feds have tape from wire taps made on McGregor and other prominent Auburn boosters from their investigation. The Newton's were just shopping their talent's to the wrong people at the wrong time and thus there is hard evidence available that incriminates everyone involved. It's only a matter of time that all of this information becomes public.
FBI found out about Cam before the NCAA did while wiretapping Milton McGregor and others related to the casino/bingo indictments. They uncovered conversations with McGregor, Auburn and Cam's uncle in Michigan. McGregor paid $250K to the uncle through a PAC and other hidden entities and the uncle funneled the money to Cecil.
If it's true that the FBI is involved in this mess, I don't think it's gonna end well at all. But, again, this is still all baseless speculation so....
