newbie here, my kids are at the age where they and their friends are getting into boating. want a boat that we can ski behind, cruise in, start wakeboarding etc. do you think this is a good all round boat for that type of use?

It may be good to learn behind, but frankly I made a similar mistake buying a 211. It was great when I was learning but as your kids progress they may want better wakes, not saying it will happen just saying it did to me. Just my honest opinion, get a used 210.

Ernie,

I don't think Colin knows how to weight his boat properly? I have seen pictures of his wake, it was nothing like what I see behing my boat. I have never had a complaint about the wake of my 211. Even a few of the pro's use the 211 by choice.

The 216 on the other hand requires fat sacks to build a good wake, it is really designed as a ski boat. Are your kids under 12? If yes, then the 216 will probably work if not I would recommend the 211 if you want a nautique. There are lots of other options too like the MC X1, a Malibu Sunscape, Tige, Sanger, Supra, etc.

The 211 with stock ballast has an awesome wake. I rode one this summer behind our dealer's demo 211 and the wake was very nice stock with 2 people. I have a lot of boating experience and wake experience, the 211 had a solid wake. The 216 on the other hand will be a difficult boat to make suitable for wakeboarding. Honestly, as popular as wakeboarding is, I would suggest looking at a boat with the sport in mind so your kids dont go asking for something better in 2-3 years.

I used to own an older 216/sport nautique. Here's my take.

216 pros
-good skiing wake
-decent wakeboarding wake

cons
-not much room for storing things (having kids makes this important)
-will need alot of extra weight to produce a good wakeboarding wake

That said I got an 06 211 last year and couldn't be happier. Although, it sounds like you'll be putting alot of people (kids & friends) in it and a 211 might not be the right size for you. Like Mike said, There are many other choices. Try as many as you can and look at everything. Good luck, my first boat was the hardest to decide on.

really surprised to hear that about the 211...

great wakeboard wake with minimal extra weight and awesome surfwake (ie world class)...

the 210 wake does have a lot more kick but is narrow and is very, very sensitive to hold it (narrow hull)...

i would look at the new 210 and 211..

i'm not saying anything bad about any of the correct craft models but just because people say a boat is good doesn't mean that its good for you. get out a look at all the boats you can. demo everything. from my experence at my parents dealership if a dealer talks really bad about a certain boat and wont do a demo it usually means that they aren't totally confident with their product. also look at the dealer that you will be buying the boat from. you want to make sure that the dealer will stand behind their product. you can buy the best boat in the world and its only going to be as good as the dealer that you buy it from because if it breaks and they can't fix it then your kind of out of luck.
