I had one, 1989 direct drive, and put 1300 hours on it without a single problem.

JoJo, does he have a fat sac or any type of added weight? Just wondered how the boat sits with extra weight, mine already sits low and with the built in platform I didn't know if it would be good on it?

Has the 1800# setup in back(bench with 2 long tubes on each side that runs past motor to front)and a 500# sac in the bow(not filled completely). You have to be extremely careful with his boat when loaded. Swamp the nose quiet often. The wake is pretty good when loaded.

WOW!! I don't think I'm that brave, but at least now I know I can put some weight in and be O.K. Does his pylon fit over the original ski pylon or does it need to come off?

He never completely fills the sacs. I guessing probably 1000-1200 in back and 300-350 in front. The pylon is made by FlightPipe and there's two brackets that mount to existing pylon and the FlightPipe slides down the two brackets and pinned in place. Little flemsy but has worked for several years now.

Here is a pics of my 89 right before I got rid of it in 2003. I redid the decals from pink to yellow.

Also had about 600-800 lbs in it and worked pretty well.

Here is a pic of a friends Ski Challenger. He hasn't had any problems with it either. Not sure of the hours. I think it is a '96 and it runs like a champ. I think he runs it with 1400 to 1800 lbs and the wake is nice.

I had an 89 Challenger. It was my first inboard boat. I bought it for 5K with no interior and later found out it had a cracked block. I fixed the block, had a clean customer interior put in it, reattached the upper hull to the lower hull with new rivots and screws, put in a new rub rail, repainted the trailer and added an extended pylon. I sold it for the exact amount I had in it and bought a Mastercraft. The new owner has had the boat since I sold it to him in 94 and hasn't had a single problem with it. With all the work I put in it I only wakeboarder behind it twice.

I had an 89 challenger. It ran like a champ and was easy to change oil, winterize. I did have some problems with dry rot in the floor boards but replaced them myself without much hassle. I only wakeboarded behind it and was pretty happy with the wake considering it was a DD. I would pull the rear cushions out and place two sacks in the back with additional weight up in the bow. The downside was the 351 carberated would suck some gas but still a good boat for the money. You also had to be aware of rollers over the front of the boat cause it wasn't hard to do.
