Still over 100 degrees here in nor-cal, but anticipating those coll fall days, just wondering if any one runs with a portable space heater for the driver/spoter that you can plug into a cigerete lighter? I see that there are about $30.00. I know that many of you will tell me to wear warm clothes and spend the money on the in-boat heaters but by that time, we will be on the motocross bikes, or snow-boarding, if it rains this year

Sounds like a damn good idea to me. I'd make pretty sure it is very protected from water, though!

I can't see a $30 cigarette lighter powered heater making much difference in an open-topped boat doing 20mph. In a confined car, maybe - but in a boat - probably not.

your cig lighter is on a 10 amp fuse. I would think any heater element would draw much more then 10A.

^^^what he said.
electric heaters need amps.
the boat heaters are the way to go or just bundle up, ugg boots, jackets, fleeces
drysuits...takes more than 30 bucks to stay warm.

How about useing a mr.buddy heater?

Make a mount so it wont tip/bounce around.
They throw off serious heat for the size of the unit.

Just fit a proper boat heater from heatercraft or similar run off engine coolant. The don't cost that much and are very good.

You'll only get the heat that a pair of tower lights would generate from the ciggy socket and I certianly wouldn't want an open flame heater in my boat!

there are also 12v blankets, also don't do too much good

Those 12v electric heaters are a slight help in defogging the windscreen but that's only if they have a good fan. Other than that you'll get more warmth turning on the blower and putting your hands over the outlet.
Use the $30 to get a couple thermos' and fill them.
