WHY do most people add everything up when ask how much weight they run. I mean I have been on boats and people start adding up the weight of the tower, coolers, gear, gas, and many other things? Is this how everyone thinks or am I and a few of my friends the only ones that just count the LBS of LEAD, WATER and maybe people.

I'm just wondering cause I here how much people run and then come to find out otherwise.

I hope this doesn't come off wrong, but it's been a question I've been wanting to ask.

Score three for straight, boat sinking weight only (I might add "and three people")...How much does a case of Red Bull weigh?

Sand and water weight only here, no gear, equipment or people included.

I've never heard anyone add that stuff up... It's kind of dumb, if you ask me. What's 15 lb.s of life jackets, and towels going to add to your wake?

However, I do hear people add sacs/lead/sand, and then add the boat crew, for a total weight. Something along the lines of, "We're running 1900 lbs of ballast, and 6-7 people." I guess that's okay, isn't it?

Here's why you add it up.

One average person on my boat =

1 board, and bag ( maybe two) approx. 20lbs

1 carryall bag with their crap in it. approx. 20lbs

1 average size adult male. approx. 185lbs

Multiply the 225lbs times 3, 4, or 5, and the next thing you know you've got an additional 675lbs, 900lbs, or as much as 1125lbs.

The next time you go out, ride your first set at max ballast capacity, then ride another set with the weight reduced by about a thousand pounds.

I don't claim the additional weight when discussing how much ballast I have, but I definitely take it into consideration when deciding how much ballast I need to use on any particular day.

I count all the way down to how many cd's I bring with me. My wake has been severely affected by my switch from cd's to mp3's.

i have actually noticed a difference in wake by adding 4 tower speakers, an amp, and 65lbs of dumbbells.

When I count, I count number of people, ballast intentionally added, yes or no on the wedge, about how full the gas tank is, those are the major factors in wake size.

uh, i don't know if you guys spend the whole day at the lake, but gas tanks don't stay full all day. so why would you count it?

Even still, the friggin sacs can vary when filled. I'm not talking about hard tanks, but external sacs.

I've got a Fat Seat that I fill plump (minus the back/arm rests) and I really don't have a clue as to how much is in that. I've also got two 350 launch pads that will be mostly full but not bulging, 200 sand in the front, 70 lead and the Fat Seat plump. If someone can tell me how much that is I'd be happy to listen. Otherwise, my best guess would be around 1,000 ( at least that's all anyone asking questions needs to know ).

A full tank makes a difference on my boat. It's a relatively small boat, so almost anything can change the wake shape.

I fill my tower tubes with helium to compensate for the tower speakers.

I just dump the boat and fill anything I can with water. I measure my ballast by how many inches under water the swim step is. When the bow eye is under water and the swim step is 5" under, then, and only then, are we ready to ride.

We just take buckets and fill up the boat with water. Fill it until it is up to to cankle(perfect). It saves on fatsacks, sand or lead, and you dont need any people in the boat. When you are done, just leave your boat in the sun and it drys right up. Ready for the next day.

People should count. Some of the boys I ride with are over 250.

I generally only count bags, lead and people but I do tend to itemize.

400 gallon in ski locker
250 gallon each side of engine
x other bags, x lead weight
and x people

When you get 2000 lbs in the boat it is important to know where the weight sits, so I tend to add that extra detail when answering the question.

oops, that would be pounds, not gallons.

I am with Guido on this one, the lbs shouldn't matter, how deep your boat sits does. When people saw the stickers on my boat under the water along with the swim deck then I would tell them what was on board.

Grant should get an exception to this rule to add the weight of his stereo gear and batteries.

I count the gas. My boat holds 60 gallons of fuel

thats about 500 pounds and I can tell the wake size is smaller when its low on gas if its not totally weighted
