I was wondering if anyone knows of a great campsite or two at Lake Shasta? Shoreline camping or just other sites close to a launch ramp.

Thanks for the help.

D-

There is a Group site @ Hirz Bay I liked. It runs about 60.00 a night and can hold up to 50 + people and 25 rigs. We were there in early July last year and loved it. Very shady and we were able to leave our boats in the water with no issues in a nice cove. Boats were about 100 feet fromt he site. . .

If you are willing to take lug your stuff across the lake then Ski Island is a great spot. Depending on when you go, the water line could be pretty high leaving you a very short walk to the campsites. There is no running water, but its free so its tuff to complain too much.

Ski Island is great because you can anchor you boat right by your sight when the water is up and there are 3 great coves to ride in. If you want to go up the Sac arm, Gooseneck cove has some campsites with a pretty good shoreline with small rocks - not so muddy or big rocks like most of the lakes shoreline.

Neither of these places have running water but they do have nice pit toilets (if you can call a pit toilet nice). Our family of 5 plus dog boat in camp at Shasta all the time - you just have to be organized.

This is a pick of a Ski Island campsite last July.

Thanks for the help guys. I have been looking at the Hirz bay sites that are smaller for 8-16 people. Has anyone tired those?

Holiday Harbor has camp sites. They're OK, they have showers and bathrooms etc. They also have RV hook-ups if you're into that whole thing. You also get a dock-slip with your campsite and can usually get an extra slip if you need it. The campsite is within a harbor so you won't get any chop or rough water around the dock. It takes 5 min to get outside the harbor. We've gone camping there a couple times in the past year or two and it's a lot cheaper than a houseboat. Holiday Harbor is also really close to 5. In fact you can see the campsite and dock briefly from 5.
