Specs for Supra Speaker Box

Does anyone have specs or a "how to" for building an under the console speaker box for a 12" box for a 2007 Supra 22SSV?

I'm considering taking on this project this weekend and would like some out of the boat photos or plans.

I searched but its a little confusing for my little head.

Trainwreck this is an interesting post b/c i was hoping to post something on wanting to do the same thing but in my 21v.

The problem i'm finding is that the steering and throttle cables are ran thru the floor in the middle of the opening behind the kick wall.

what all has everyone done in regards to building a box, yet still allowing for plenty of footwell space under the drivers area?

Funny you should bring this up. I am looking for ideas also, but I think I know what I am going to do.

Depending on what kind/size 12 you are using will determine if you'll be doing a sealed or ported enclosure. I am buying an off the shelf sealed enclosure for Kicker Comp 12, and mounting a false wall in front of it.

You'll want to take measurements and probably remove the drivers seat to be able to get a box in there.

The hardest part for me will be making the false wall.

Once you remove the factory sub and wall (3 screws, super easy), this is what you will find.






Would love to hear what others have done as well.

Oh, one other thing....there's is TONS of foot space, even with a box extending from that hole in the floor (shown) coming forward over 12". for reference, I'm 6'2" and this is where my feet are in a comfortable seated position. With the new seat being up so high, it really helps.

I have that useless 10" Kenwood back there now, and have a 12" Kicker Comp in a sealed box over in the area under the stereo w/the flip up seat. I have to open that seat in order to get any bass into the cabin.

Cal(phenom 1819) has a very cool setup that he sent me dimensions on for the drivers area. His setup was for a JL 10w7, but you could easily modify for a 12. I decided to put my sub in a ported box in the passenger area to keep from tearing apart the dash from a long term install. I may end up at some point doing a 2nd sub in the drivers area as well.

On my 21V I had enough slack in the cables to route them under the box. I simply added some 2" feet to the box to lift it off the floor. I went cheap with a 12" Sony mounted to the front(forward facing) of the box and mounted a piece of plexi on the rear of the box. I used the factory kick panel to trim it out and didn't lose any legroom. I'm going to de-winterize this afternoon and I'll get some pics.

I did Diggs old black and white 21v. We did a 12 L7 slot port and there was plenty of room. the box came out about 2 inches short of the cup holders. and stopped about 2 inches over the hole in the floor. Just take a measurement across the back over the hole and make it square box and figure your height. I made it to the kicker specs but it was a little thinner and a bit taller. Diggs post up pics if you get a chance. The sub faced the seat and the slot port faced the hull on top (hidden). That thing pounded! They are easy they just take time. Make your false front so it can accommodate the flashlight and the heater hose.

Oh yeah, I've seen that picture! Looks very nice, but I'd like to see it in the day light. I don't think I'll be going all plexiglass or anything, seeing as how it will be pulled out when I sell it.

No plexi, that was just MDF and carpet.
I wish I had those kind of skills.!

I am facing this same issue in my 21V. Last year I added a w6, but couldn't get the install to work correctly around the heater and cables thru the floor.

I ended up installing deep under the passenger side, facing the hull in a sealed box, but with the compartment closed up it just doesn't pound like I would expect. If I open the passenger side up, the sound can escape but that’s not feasible. It used a 500/1 with it so I know I have the power but I just don’t think going too deep on the passenger side is ideal. (if I stick my head in there with normal volume – it makes my teeth shake )

This year I think I might do the false front thing, but I have the stock sub installed under there now, although it is not plugged in after the W6 addition. I’ve thought about still using that false front, installing the box with some spacers under it giving room for cables, but removing the stock sub and adding a nice grill to cover the hole….ghetto maybe, but cheaper than having a whole new panel and box built.

Has anyone upgraded the Alternator on their Supra? The problem I have now is with three amps, I can literally see the volt meter bounce with the music

With only two batteries I don’t get much playing time now either….man I have some work to do.

I will see what pics I have. Newty did a great job with mine on my 06 21V. There seems to be a lot more room on the 21v and you should have no problem. Everyone told me the new hull 22ssv (07 and up) would be tough to fit it, but i got one done and it is sweet as well... I don't have specs on the box, but it is one of the rockford fosgate recomended ported boxes. smaller one of course to make it fit. It comes out close to my feet, but still plenty of room... let me dig to see if I have pics...

thats perfect... Still plenty of room for the feet. If you need to stretch out while cruising across the lake then swivel the seat and pop em up on the walk through.

sorry for the hijack but since there is a good number of supra owners here i was wondering if any of yall have recently tinted the windshield and dont mind sharin what you payed. and do you have any suggestions on darkness for my boat (profile pic). Thanks

Good question Kameron...it might get answered more quickly with a new post. I'm curious too.

i have done it on a previous boat and almost did it on this one. still may... you should not pay more than $150-$200.
I think 30% is good... maybe a little dark. i think the next shade is 50% and that is good too... Don't go to dark....
Can't remember on shades though....

I had made a post probably about a week ago and got a little bit of info but i was really trying to find a supra specific answer. and ive also heard things about having to take the windshield out...true not true?

Kameron, I plan to take my boat next weekend for a quote. I was guessing about $125-175. The same place is doing my Quad cab truck for $125. I was thinking about 25-30% tint myself.

I'll try and get some pictures posted up tonight, in the meantime, my profile pic is my sub setup with a JL 10w7 underneath the dash. My setup could easily be modified to accomodate a 12" sub...

Cal what is that made of? I'm talking about the contraption that is housing the sub. Also, is that considered a ported or sealed box for the sub?

SupraSteve (I love your screen name, by the way... I think of the movie Big Daddy every time) -- The box is made of 3/4" MDF with a 3/4" plexiglass face. The entire box is coated in fiberglass resin to make it waterproof.

The enclosure is a ported box built as close as possible to JL specs -- there is a slot port that runs along the bottom of the box from the right hand side, and turns into the main compartment on the left (you can see the detail in several pictures). It creates the illusion that the Supra logo is floating inside the box, and looks way better in person than in pics.

I am very happy with how it sounds. This sub was in my old boat in a sealed enclosure in the passenger-side storage compartment. I thought it was loud for a 10" sub then -- this setup is even louder, I think mostly because of the ported box. It sounds a lot different in a ported box than a sealed box, which I anticipated...
