I dont know about the rest of you, but during wakeboarding season, the area at the top of your palms, right where your fingers meet the palm, begin to get hard and somewhat calloused. do any of you have this problem? and do you know of any good ways to prevent it? maybe a better handle? i think my handle is ok, but was wondering what the rest of you do.

Yeah this year I have been getting the same problem, especially lately because I have been boarding 3 times a week. I think it is just your hands are not used to it, but mine seem to be getting better, it doesn't really trouble me at all.

After using Thane's Watson handle, I'm a believer. I like that its a little thicker than most.

Also we just got the Accurate Byerly handle and its great too.

vitamin e helps heal it faster. if you work out consisently your hands will toughen up as well.

i just cut mine off as they develop. keeps them from ripping if they build up too much.

I have to say I think my wakeboarding callouses turn the guys on .

I wakeboard 3-4 days a week and until I got a rigid handle (Accurate Lines - Parks Carbon Fiber) I would get callouses that would eventually rip off and then grow back again. The new handle and gloves have made a huge difference.

I know, gloves - not cool...but I'd rather wear'em and not have callouses rip off monthly. Don't know why it happens, seems like my hands oughta toughen up given how often I'm out there...

if your wearing gloves you can't be in DMC. We do not suggest the use of Gloves while wakeboarding as a MAN you take the callouses. That would ruin our image!

You're really making fun of me because I wear gloves? Maybe we should just settle this behind the gym during recess. Come on guys, I've got a sweet boat, a boat slip right outside my condo on the water, and I wakeboard 3-4 days a week...you're really not going to make me feel bad for wearing gloves, sorry.

we will settle this right now....you don't have the same traction on the handle when you wear gloves. let DMC launch anytime we want to and use your condo on the water & boat and DMC will be your best friend.

are callouses bad??? if anything, they help you. consider it a precipitant of wakeboarding.

are you some sort of hand model? get over it.

OH GOD NO!!! I don't have the same traction when I wear gloves?!! What have I been doing, my life is over. Don't think I could be a hand model, I still get callouses, they just don't rip off anymore. I'd take gloves over that any day. Actually, I don't wear gloves, it was all a big joke. But I heard there's some jerk on the wakeskate forum who does, let's go beat the crap out of him and steal his lunch money.

You don't like my tribal band? That's ok, your approval wasn't really a consideration when I got it.

I wear gloves because I've been wearing them since I started sking back in the 70's. First of all it's a misconception that you can't hold on as good with gloves. The problem is that if you are not used to them, then gloves add to the diameter of the handle and it doesn't feel right. This is why you think you don't get as much grip. If you were used to it them it would be the opposite when you take them off.

For all who think gloves are for sissies, you should try becoming a serious slalom skier. There is no way that you can ski the course short line on a regular basis without wearing gloves. You will literally rip your hands up. Back in my slalom days I wore gloves *and* had to regularly cut off my callouses. If anything slalom skiers alone disprove the less grip with gloves assertion.

If your callouses are bad, trim them with finger nail clippers or they will rip off and leave a blister. If you are willing to look uncool, pay the price to replace them frequently, and take the time to get used to them, then gloves will prevent any callous problems from wakeboarding. Too bad they are so dang overpriced and don't hold up for long.

Piss on your hands. That is what all the hardcore (non glove wearing) baseball players do. vladimir garero does it, you should to. It really makes your hands tough from what he says.
