Also been following this post on the 2001.com. Just an amazing engineering feat. I wish I had a fraction of the skill to take on a project like that. Personally, I'd put a tower on it, but completely understand why he didn't. Very good mix of clean and classic styling right there.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! except for the pylon. All it needs now is a Flight Control Tower and perfect pass.

That is gorgeous! Can someone please throw it in production for all those less mechanically inclined? I can't stop looking at it.

I've been following it too, he really did a great job. I was a little skeptical at first but love how much room was gained. Can't wait to see pics of the wake!

Man I wish I still had my 88 2001. I would totally do this! This is the sickest project I have ever seen someone do with these boats! That boat needs a flight control 2 tower!
Old     (bjeremi)      Join Date: Mar 2006       07-09-2009, 9:21 AM Reply
I can understand why he didnt do the tower as well butyeah a flight control tower would be pretty sweet. Or maybe some sort of illusion looking tower with wood inserts.
Old     (sacwake)      Join Date: Jul 2008       07-09-2009, 10:07 AM Reply
Tower for sure! A polished or white FCT would look sweet.

So did Correct Craft ever make a V drive 2001? or was this a full blown first time it has been done?

It looks great!

White FCT would be .

CC never made a 2001 V. Full conversion and fairly well done, at that. CC did make a vdrive starting in '87 IIRC, the Martinique w/ a 454, 2 years before they stopped making the 2001.

A tower would be great from a functional standpoint, but on sheer looks, that boat looks awesome as is. Great execution and I love the engine cover. It just looks classic. I have said it before, but Nautiques have great lines, particularly the 2001 models. It would be cool to have one in mahogany.

yea the teak sets it off
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       07-09-2009, 12:37 PM Reply
It almost looks like the teak platform needs to be lifted up a bit to account for it having more weight to the rear.

I don't think I would ruin that beautiful boat with an ugly tower. That boat would be awesome for cruising around Lake Sammamish in the summer.

A diamond for sure. Some boat designers/manufacturers should take note. Seems it could appeal to several market segments. Have a classic teak model and a sport model with tower and maybe less wood.

That is a beautiful work of art. Reminds me of the old Chris Craft wooden classics, with a touch of modern flair.
Very classy, I would not ruin it with a tower.

This is what Standard Boat should have made!!!! Only wish he put a rear facing seat behind the drivers seat. Lets see the wake and video of the boat running
Old     (luchog)      Join Date: Jun 2002       07-10-2009, 4:27 PM Reply
I think the gas tank could have been located more towards the front, but I guess a video of the boat running could prove me wrong, so let's see it!!!

Now thats what I have been asking for! A closed bow v-drive. An efficient wake machine with comfort for 4 or 5! Sweet!
Old     (wakeboardin2k4)      Join Date: Sep 2006       07-10-2009, 5:28 PM Reply
If that were available for production I'd be filling out the bill of sale right now!

I have been following this project since day one and is the best 2001 I have ever seen He did a great job of changing to a v-drive without making it look like tacky or unattractive. Cleanly done and I can't wait for a video

This is one of the nicest looking conversions I've ever seen, but there must be a reason he hasn't posted any handling or wake reviews or videos yet. I'm guessing it porpoises like a mutha and needs weight in the nose. Regardless, this has me tempted to sell my VLX and pick up an old 2001 for a winter project. Custom gas tank in the bow...
Old     (wakebrdr38)      Join Date: Sep 2006       07-10-2009, 9:16 PM Reply
I doubt that it porposes at all actually. The motor weighs like 800 pounds or something, and the fuel tank was moved to the bilge area in the middle. I bet it really doesnt need weight in the back lockers, or not much, it really would just need a lot of weight up front. People have been starting to open up the entire bow area now and putting big sacs up there. Ive had 300 pounds in the front of mine in the very nose and it sits pretty low, but the transition is awesome.

I think a wake version done buy a company would be perfect with a sac up front, 100 pound tanks in the back and two 400 pound or so tank built in the center on either side of the gas tank and make the rear and middle ones a pure vert system.

Everything would be hidden and with middle tanks under the floors on left and right side of the gas tank and small rear tanks on left and right you could probably really customize that wake for surfing or for how picky the boats are about the steep wake washing out on one side due to the narrowness of the boat.

That boat would sell like crazy and probably fetch 30-35.

If I had the skills this guy has, I would start converting our 2001 right now, exactly as Kevin just described.

Wow, that is amazing work! I would have killed to have had my old 2001 look like that. I did some really great (if I do say so myself) interior work on mine, but I would have never thought to move the entire engine to the rear. Great stuff!

That boat is *****ing gorgeous!!! I love it and wouldn't dream of defacing it with a tower. Nope, get out your Ralph Lauren best and take a cocktail cruise in that thing. I concur with above it's reminiscent of the old wood Cris Craft.
