Hi all, up here in the AK we dont have the long summers to play like you all in the lower 48 do. So 98% of our boats up here are made for fishing oceans and rivers. That inturn leave very slim picks for a wakeboard type boat. I am looking used but my options are sadd.. Bayliners or the typical deep v fiberglass. I am going I/O either way, no more outboard motors. Just wondering whats the better of the 2 for wakeboarding. Either boat will range from 20 to 22'. Both are also in the early to late 90's models.. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a road trip to Washington or California is in order.

Why no outboards? My bud in the Bahamaas rides behind a 22' CC with the new Evenrude motor. That motor is more fuel efficient and easier to work on that any IO.

Personally if I were buying a new(er) boat I cant see myself settling for an I/O... like others have said..there are alotta boats in the NW that probably fit your budget, but then again we dont know what that is.

Is a road trip to the NW even an option? Much of AK is accessible only by air or sea.

Thanks for your thoughts everyones. I worked on cars for half of my life and abit more comfee with the inboards. The boat I am thinking about settling on is a 22' Galaxy Boat Works Ultra. Looks like a wakeboat and has all the room to add fat sacks or a ballast system. Going out to look at it now, I will add pics of it when I get back. As of now anything will be better then my 40h 17' Tracker Marine Tournament XP to board behind.. Yep yep produces a massive 11inch wake at 20mph with extra 400lbs of people.... LOL.. Here it is for sale..

As for budget.. Heehh.. Single parent with $1700 mortgage.. So yeah as little as I can spend on a new boat is what I am looking at.. No road trips. Extra 2k just for road trip down and back the Alkan Hwy.. Or 3k to ship it up. Already looked into that one. Anywho, will be back with pics.. Thanks for your thoughts all..

Being a wakeboarder in AK has to be an uphill battle. Ever heard of fishing, hunting, snowboarding, or hockey? ;)

LOL Trace.. I raced dirt bikes and street bikes up here for 7 years and I am a avid snowboarder. Ok heres the jist of my issues. The boat is ok, bigger then I thought. My rig is an Explorer v8 302 AWD.. Yeah yeah laugh it up. Heehh.. I think the Galaxie is to large to pull it. My have to settle on a Bayliner and call it good. Are Bayliners that bad to board behind. I am not looking to go pro or anything just want a bigger wake to play on.. Heres the ad on the Galaxie, my pics are not that more detail then those. Any thoughts would be grand.. Thanks all.

dude. i got a 4.7L v8 in a 4dr dodge 1500 2wd and can pull a boat twice that size. just be easy on it and give yourself plenty of room to stop at stop signs and stuff.

I do believe so, thats hilarious....

Honestly would you consider the Galaxie or no? Not digging that Glasstron, make you kinda wonder about the rest of the boat with that stylish captains chair.. The Galaxie needs ALOT of TLC to bring it back though.. My only real issue is backing it up my driveway. A horrible incline at a angle. Honestly if I had a regular flat driveway I would have no issues with the boat at all other then making sure my suspension holds to pull it.

I was fishing in Alaska and the Yukon in Aug 06' and the whole time I was thinking "My God, look at this glass!" I wanted to wakeboard. I've never seen smoother water than some of the lakes up there.

pull the trigger yo! The exploder will do it. There is a reason those suv's sold so many... Have a good summer next season.

We had a galaxie for over ten years, it served us well- Besides- any boat is better than no boat..

I don't see either one of those being any better of a pull than a center console open fish, of which there must be a lot more to choose from in AK.

For 3G's you could drive to CA and back.

I would agree with Shredhead on the center console fisher. That way you will have a good multipurpose boat.

7900 for that crappy Glasstron with an office chair as the driver seat? And 5 grand for that Galaxie? If that's how it rolls in AK, a late model wakeboard boat would cost 300,000. No wonder dude is looking for a bayliner, those are only 75,000 in AK. I'll sell my 2007 Xstar for 300,000, and hell I'll even drive it up there to you free of charge.

Still want to know why everyone dogs Bayliners. Heres one that from the pics the guys seem to be jumping pretty decent wake to wake..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bayliner-Capri-Wakeboard-Boat-Tower-P-Pass-Ballast-NR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhas hZitem439a271cacQQitemZ290349063340QQptZPowerQ5fMo torboats

I have a fishing boat already, really have no use for another. All I want is something that produces a better wake then what I have now. And looks like a sport boat not a fish boat. Bayliners up here are pretty cheap. Around 3 to 4k. Add another 2k for tower and sacs like the ebay one and it would be an ok boat? No?? We really only have 3 months of riding up here with out having to wear a full wet suit or dry suit. I just want something not to costly that wont break me to use 3 months out of the year.

Jasin, I hear ya! By all means go for it man. It comes down to what you want to spend and where your priorities are. I work on the slope so I get the understanding of a short season!! Hats off to ya in that cold water bro. If your just lookin for a better wake than what ya got and not to picky by all means! To bring a boat from the lower 48 costs alot, whether your driving it or Ferry it. and 3 months is short!! is it worth spending alot of coin for only 3 months? So I get where your coming from. Jump the wake and have fun thats what its about.

Hoping to get out again before I head back up to Prudhoe next wed. Damn cold weather there now

Jasin you by chance know Nathan Rank? Last name is something like that. He raced back a few years ago and had sponsorship.

Wow.... I'm glad I logged in today. Jasin, I dont know if you ever ride out at Big lk. but there's a huge wakeboard scene out there. My buddy has an 07 Moomba LSV and so does someone else, another guy I know has a X-15, theres two Calibra's, a few Nautiques, a guy just got a new Avalanche C-4 and I have a 08 Supra 22ssv. If you ever want to go ride hit me up sometime.

And even though we only get 5 months to ride, we have almost 24-7 day light in the summer months! So for me and my crew, we get up at 8 or 9a.m. and go ride till mid-night and then finish off the night with a few hours of surfing. Kickit at th campfire for a bit tell we crash and get up to do it all over again... ahhh the good life

Wow, that's just odd thinking about it. 24-7 daylight, and wakeboarding until midnight.

Jump on the Bayliner. There is a reason the company has been solid and around for so long. There is nothing fancy or powerful about them, but they do get the job done for a low price.

Thats right I forgot about the daylight thing! That would be awesome behind the boat at midnight! Your 3 months just extended!

really out of all the ones posted that bayliner looks like your best bet.

I dont think he is getting that bayliner, but if so, I am more than willing to go check it out for him...

I would go hang with Peter. I used to live in Anchorage when I was in high school. Loved it!

The Ebay Bayliner was just an example. Just tried to get a 91 Capri Open Bow like the Ebay one, just all stock though and the bank turned me down saying it was too old of a boat. Said if I want to do a loan has to be at least a 2000 or higher. The 91 was only 3k. Seller want to do a notarized contract if I want it and have it payed off by mid March, which is no prob. Dont really know now though. Only have a month, if that left. Should I wait for a boat next summer or by now??

Peter, never waked at Big Lake yet, abit further then I would like to drive. Do all my riding at Finger Lake. theres usually about 4 boats out with boarders/tubers in tow. I do jet ski(stand ups) at Big Lake on occasions though, but never seen any wake boats or boarders there. Usually on week days is when I am out there to avoid the coast guard on the weekends harassing me for not having extinguishers, flares, whistle, etc.. in my Kawi's. Who the hell is going to keep all that stuff in a stand up??

Matt, names are really vague to me. I am soo bad with names.. I stopped racing in 04 due to divorce. Still have all my bikes, just no time to ride as being a Mr. Mom..

Yeah gonna wait till next spring and get something I like rather then something I would just settle on. By then I should have at least 7to 8k to drop on a new or late 90's boat as down payment or out right.. Seeing as how in little more then 4 weeks we will be having snow.. Yayyy... Or lots of ice... Heeh..
Old     (akdivision)      Join Date: Mar 2007       09-19-2009, 5:33 PM Reply
Theres only Coast Guard on the big holiday weekends. Otherwise we never see them. Like I said hit me up sometime and I'll give you a pull.

Sounds good Peter, will try to make it out there next weekend, boy wants to go 4 wheeling tomorrow.. That and he's complaining the water is getting abit nippy now..
