What are you towing?

I think the F-150 tows just fine, but there is not enough information. What engine? What model (standard cab, supercrew, FX4, etc)? Does it have the factory tow package with the 3.73 gearing ratio? What do you plan on towing? Are you planning on towing long distances or up hill at high altitude?

I have a 08 FX4 with the 5.4 V8 and 3.73 gearing. It tows my 03 SANTE like a champ, but I don't always tow long distances. I would say the biggest issue is my towing gas milage sucks compared to what a diesel would get. I personally didn't want a diesel as my daily driver so that was not a option for me.

I have a 2010 FX4 5.4L. and the thing tows my boat great. I went from having a F-250 with the diesel and I thought coming from the diesel to the 150 I would be dissapointed, but I was blown away at how good it did. Made my second thoughts about getting rid of the diesel disappear.

I have an 07 4x4 supercrew F150 that I tow an 07 Mastercraft X-45 with (HEAVY boat).. I would not want to do a bunch of long distance towing but outside of the craptastic gas mileage when towing is not too bad.

I think it also depends on the kind of terrain you are pulling. I live in BC, Canada where there are hills ( and very steep ones) where my truck has a hard time so quite often I wish I had a diesel. However if I lived somewhere relatively flat my truck would be more then enough IMO.

why get a F150 when you can get an F15000?

I was just kiddin with the diesel statement. It seems that these kind of questions always turn out with that same response. I have an 08 on 35"s with 4:56 gears. I am more than happy with how it tows. The newer trucks with the six speed auto's are even better. Gas mileage leaves a little to be desired, but it doesn't bother me that much because I don't drive the truck daily. The new Ecoboost may be worth waiting for also. We should have them readily available by early spring. The gassers can tow too! Just fine actually. The diesels are just becoming overwhelming powerhouses, and it's hard to beat the TQ#'s on those beasts.

I just bought a 2010 F150 FX last month, and only launched boat once so far water is about 500 feet from storrage and it was nice. looking forward to a longer trip to pull! I only have a V215. I went through the whole diesel thing and those are meant to be hauling a 5th wheel or a bunch of horses, working on a farm. Not a lil ol boat...Just MO
Love it

I've towed extensively with F150's from 06's to current with both 3:55 and 3:73's. They tow very well up and down moutains, across flats, whatever. With the newer trucks 09 later I don't notice a ton of difference between the 3:55's and the 3:73's but I did realize better fuel economy both in daily driving and towing with the 3:55's. If you are interested in new, the 5.0 in the new truck rips and the new Eccoboost should be bad ass.

I've towed my Launch 24SSV with an '03 F-150 FX4 for two summers now and it does fine, drinks the gas on distance hauls, but it works fine. Had a preexisting radiator problem that only became noticeable once I started towing, replaced it and it's actually worked very well since.

what is done to your diesel? tune, exhaust, intake? year?
should be getting decent milage, why not drop the gearing down? thats cheaper than a new truck...
