My son(will be 10 yrs old in september) got up for the first time memorial day weekend and has been rocking it ever since. He learned on a 142 board. The bindings ripped ober the weekend. Do I replace the bindings or pick up a replacement board. Is the 142 too big for him? Thank for your help.

I would say a 142 is big, but if he is comfy on it then rock it. He will have more control on a smaller board that fits him a bit more, you might look around in the classified section. Even a 138 or 137 will be better. Maybe even smaller than that.

how tall is he?how much does he weigh? a 142 is for someone who weighs at least 150-160lbs.

watson 130 with watson bindings, you want his feet and ankles to be comfortable and secure as well. Get him the new board

i would put him on a board between 128cm and 130cm. you could look on the gear guide on here to see which manufacturers offer boars in that range. as i stated above the 142 is too big.

My son was 10 when he started, I insisted that he buy a board to grow into so he ended up with a 134. He was progressing some so I thought everything was good. We went to a hyperlite demo day and he tried out a 124. His ability to control the board on 180's was significantly improved. We bought the 124 which he rode for 2 years. His progression was much faster. Not all kids are going to have the drive and ability to progress at the same rate. If they have the ability, desire, and opportunity to ride enough having the right size board is very important.

I know its only 120CM but look at the new Ronix Vision. This thing is really cool and incredibly light with great bindings. I bought my 65 lb 91/2 YO son one for his birthday and his shred level skyrocketed. We just pulled the center fins and he loves it loose. Not cheap but a serious board for aggressive groms. It's light and fast and he can throw it around but still lock the edge down. He loves it, wont let his little brother touch it.

okay heres the scoop i did the leg work for you. these are all 2009 models so if you google them you can find the deals.cwb surge 119,hyperlite motive119,hyperlite state 125,liquid force nemesis 118,obrien coda 129 obrien system 124 obrien valhalla 127 and a ronix vault 128. all these boards will work some are intermediate/pro boards but that will give him room to grow. it's like starting driving with a corvette you can drive it slow but it feels better to go fast. also evogear.com always has good deals in their outlet.

The 142 is way too big for him and will hinder his progress! My boy got his Nemesis 124 at 10 and switched to the Watson 130 at 13......both excellent boards. Also recommend the Watson bindings in his size...if these work with your budget? Super comfy with great support!
1st pic Nemisis124...2nd pic Watson 130
