In my boat(bayliner175xt) they have the weight limit sticker and im sure all boats have it. Question is, how accurate is that. Say i want to add 400-500#'s of weight and i have 4-6 guys inside thats gonna be like 1200#s. The sticker says like 795#. Obviously it doesnt mean your boat will sink if u go a lil over that, but at what point is it too much? Just looking for some clarification on this, Thanks!

796lbs is too much for this boat. The limit is there for a reason, and has been determined by engineers with way more knowledge than most of the rest of us.

If you exceed the maximum capacity at the least you can be ticketted, at the most you could sink the boat. There is a thread on here this week about a sunk boat at the Delta, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want that (BTW I don't know if the boat was overloaded or not). I'm guessing that if you did sink your boat and your passengers were hurt then you would be found guilty of negligence for overloading the boat.

Shannon- my boat's sticker says 1150#s. I put close to 2000#s of water in it, and usually have around 6 people on the boat. This is an 18.5 foot I/O. I have done this for a couple years now and never had a problem.
Peter is right that some really smart engineers have created the boat's weight limit, but the truth is that the boat is not going to sink if you go over it to a certain extent.
Peter is also right about the negligence part, but as long as you aren't driving like an idiot, then you won't be sinking.
So if you do decide to overload your boat, just make sure you are smart about it.
