Boat is a 2008 X15

1. I need to replace my thermostat on my MCX. Can I get anyone for a 5.7 engine?

2. My port ballast is taking a long time to fill and empty. I can hear the pump turn on then shut off after about 20 sec. Is the pump going or just need to replace the impeller?

thanks

Why wouldn't you take it to the dealer?

I would replace with gen item as you will risk voiding the engine warrantee

no worries on the thermostat but what about the ballast filling/emptying issue. Does it sound like it would be the pump or just the impeller? I dont think either one of those would be covered.

Edgar, I have the same boat. My ballast sucks too. Always have to mess with it to empty, generally on the port side. I mainly use fat sacs now. Let me know what your fix is. And whats wrong with the thermostat?? I feel that shoudl be covered under warranty?

The thermostats have different ratings between auto and marine. You need one rated for marine engine use - it opens between 120-160 degrees while auto thermostats open between 160 and 220 degrees. Get the right one and a new gasket while you are at it.

Rob, do you hear your pump kick on and shut off right away? I wonder if it is not sucking water in or draining out so it shuts itself off???

i hear my pump running but it takes a few turns or the boat and flips of the switch for it to actually draw water and the same for emptying. The front and starboard side fill/drain very quickly. Port not so much.

haha, i have messed with mine quite a bit. My fix was 2- 400 lb fat sacs and a 750 lb'er in the front. Let me know if u get a fix. Ive heard that certain combinations of pumps shouldnt be run together, like having all 3 on at the same time or something. Havent heard a definate answer but hopefully there is a fix

Dude its all under warranty still, take it to your dealer and have them fix it for free. If the dealer gives you any problems contact Mastercraft Directly. I have an 06 X2 and MasterCraft was great with our warranty even though our dealer sucked.

I was hoping there was an easy fix as taking it to the dealer is a pain plus it takes time. I live in the midwest so I have limited boating time.

I own an MC and it pisses me off they are so arrogant. You should be able to run all three pumps these are freaking expensive boats. That are supposed to be TOP of the line you would figure they could get the ballast thing figured out. It has me seriously considering another brand.

I dont run all 3 of mine at the same time. Pretty basic physics....we have 1 inlet. The 2nd and 3rd pumps in line are sucking air or very little water if pump 1 bogards it all. I've thought many times about drilling a 2nd inlet. Now that I ripped out my hard tanks its needed more then ever. I might just drill 2 or 3 and do it right.

Good point Jarrod, never really thought about how these pumps worked. If we were to fill 1 at a time do u think we would have better results, maybe the port side tank is further away from the inlet making it harder to suck water to it? Ill be at my boat this weekend and will try it. But now that i think about it, i always fill the Port by itself bc it always takes so long. Hmm migh tbe time to conact my dealer, there great but time in the boat world is much different than time in the real world as im sure most people know. hah

Jarod is right. Its and 08 X15 and MC should have figured out that it takes more than one inlet to run a 3 bag ballast MC should do it. I am thinking of doing the same thing but at least I have an 02 Xstar if I had an 08 X15 I would be pissed. My buddies 08 210 all three fill at the same time no problem. Other than that and rough water ride my Xstar is GREAT.

So is there a pump for each tank but only one inlet and one outlet for all 3 tanks?

I have an 08 X2 with the same problem but it's my front tank that doesn't drain. I had the dealer redo the entire line to the tank and replace all the pumps. Still it times out every now and then. What I have found is if you empty at 1200 rpm's it seems to work, thats what masteraft tells you to do also. Another think that works for me is to make sure they are filled all the way before I drain, not sure why this works, maybe it gets the air out, but I will fill them till they spit out the sides and then wait a min and move to empty. Good luck.

have you ever tried filling with at that rpm too see if that works better? I will try that this weekend

Edgar, i always fill at that RPM. Doesnt help at all, i feel that swerving back and forth helps the most, Its actually the only thing that will fill my port hard tank. Same thing with emptying

Well filling or draining one at a time and at about 1200 RPM does help. Not the best design but it will have to be that way until the season is over as I don't want to take it out again.
