Anchor Question

What size anchor does everyone have to hold there boats? The last think I want is for my boat to be drug around the lake when I decide to relax for a little while.

I think It depends on where your going? I go to the Delta alot and the Bottom is real Muddy and
a small anchor works well but I know if I went to somwhere where the bottom was hard and my anchor couldn't sink into the mud I would be getting dragged all around, The One I use in the phot seems to work great in all conditions the down side is it's "kinda Big"

I use a box style anchor, the best I have ever had. I will post a picture ASAP.

Maybe the word "size" was wrong. I meant wieght. How heavy of a anchor should you buy for your boat?

Ex: 21' 3000lb. boat = ? lb anchor

I use a bigger version (15 lb) of this for my main anchor with a pretty red and white anchor rope that matches the boat. my secondary anchor is the same as grants but it is white.

Ryan-
It depends on the bottom of the lake where you ride. Is it sand, mud, or rock? There are specific anchors for each type of bottom AFAIK.

Like Jonathan said, box style anchor is the best we've found. Drawbacks: a little big and bulky, but does fold. Works in any conditions. We have been boating at Lake Havasu which can get pretty nasty, and this has held up to everything. Friends with 27+ foot boats swear by them as well.

You can find them at West Marine...not sure where else.

I have a 5-lb Danforth Hi-Tensile anchor. It's amazing how well it holds for such a small anchor. It's excellent for sand or mud. Here's the link for it at West Marine.

Weight is not as important as design, use of chain and length of line versus depth. A little online reseach is worth the time.

Go with the manufacturers recommendations and good technique. I use a 4 pound Fortress made from an aluminum based metal and stainless chain. It's lighter but the same size as a much heavier steel anchor. It costs a few bucks more but it will never rust and the holding power in sand is excellent.

Anyone use one of these Grapnel Anchors?
Would this work on the CA delta?

They look like they would work and they fold up nicely.

i have one of thoese grapnel anchors and it works pretty good in soft clay but if sometimes takes a little while for it to catch. what is the bottome like in the delta? (sorry im on the east coast)

The delta is pretty much soft mud. The currents can be strong but steady and not huge.
