Just saw my old boat, and

It's always strange when you bump in to your old boat again. I owned a sport nautique for 6 or 7 years, I was the second owner. The first owner really looked after it ,the boat was pretty much spotless. I carried on the tradition of babying the boat, and restoring, repairing and replacing anything required to keep the boat in tip top condition. To be honest, I was probably a bit too keen ( read anal), didn't like getting the interior too wet, cleaned the boat top to bottom after every outing...

Fast forward 7 or 8 months after I sold the boat, cold wet day in early March and I see the boat sitting in the water at a marina, I was surprised as even the keenest amongst us at this latitude don't normally launch till the mid/end of April. Curiosity took over, so I went for a peek. No cover on, snap on bow cover off too, interior looking soaked and tired, vinyl looked messy, bimini (which was new when I sold the boat) torn. I felt a little sad, okay my opinion doesn't matter as it's not my boat anymore , such a good example of a late '90's boat now really looks like a 17 year old boat. Shame really.

same happened to me, except I saw it as i drove by at their house. it was only a season or two after i sold it. i actually went into their yard to look around. Of course I knocked first... Anyways uncovered, bimini up and torn, leaves and debris all over, muddy, scratches all down the gel coat from trailering too deep and hitting guide poles, i imagine. One tire flat on trailer and the hitch of the trailer was all bent up and mangled like someone ran into it with their vehicle.

I remember I almost did not sell them the boat, as i found them wanting, and I thought the Gods of wake would look down in disdain and forever curse me and my wake ventures, but I needed a buyer. they were actually leaving for a trip to lake powell in two days after they bought it...

I still look for my 1994 searay...

I think you guys have it good. I would rather see the old girlfriend looking like crap. That is better than see the old girlfriend looking good, and being like, oh ****, she looks better then my current old lady.

I buy a lot of boats, most of them sight unseen, unfortunately although people claim one thing they usually end up being the boat left out in the yard with leaves and weathers cracked upholstery. In 2012 I restored a 2002 X-Star, all black, "theft recovery" from a tow yard in Texas. I did went through everything on that boat including wiring up a new dash and wire harness, upholstery, prop, ballast system, Perfectpass, and transmission. Overall I put over $6k into rehabbing it and it was a sweet ride by the time I finished. I put my blood, sweat and tears (literally) had nightmares about trying to fix that wire harness. (Ended up being the computer module). I sold it to a first time boat owner and was worried about how it was going to be loved. I ran into it at the boat ramp at Powell last October. Was stoked to see he had taken care of it, powder coated the tower black, added a snap on cover and added some rev 10's.

I sold my first boat and it was a beautiful Ski Centurion Falcon. It was almost perfect when it left my driveway. I knew the person that I sold it to and where he lived. When I decided to sell it, it took one phone call and it was picked up the next day. Well it sat in his drive way for years and years until they moved. It was sad to see it not being used and under the elements. Faded trailer paint, needed wax badly and I was probably the last one to wax it. I wish I took better pictures of it when I had it. It is amazing how some people take care of their things.

So sad. But hey, at least it's not yours anymore and you have moved on and up.
