Been playing around with ballast setup and can't seem to get it dialed in just yet. riding goofy, got 1100 in starboard locker, ski locker sac (est 500 lbs), 300 lbs of lead on starboard bow seat. I've got another 750 I was going to put on the seat behind the driver.

ideal speed is the big question. rode it from 10 up to 12.5 and couldn't seem to get the right push. anyone surfing a 230 and have it setup right?

also, my platform is screwing up the wave a bit. whats the fix?

Fresh Air Exhaust sells platform risers that gets it a little higher so it doesn't mess with the wave. Could probably make some yourself too

Thanks Jack, good to know. The transom is molded around the platform, it seems. not sure if I can move it up without really changing things, but I'll look into it.

The ones Larry at fresh air told me about go under the platform to where ever it bolts to the brackets, if that makes any sense.

I surf my 2003 230. 750 in the locker, 600 tube sac on the seat, 500 under floor locker full. Gives a nice clean wave, able to go without the rope no problem.

I have to look but I think have fiberglass that extends out over the platform, preventing me from raising it.

so you don't fill the opposite side at all? I had about 150-200 lbs in there thinking that if the entire boat were further in the water, it would help push a bit more. sounds like thats not ideal.

No weight in the non surf side. Even moving 1 body (200lbs) from non surf side, makes a difference. I haven't tested any bow weight yet...

Honestly I don't know. We go by rpm and it differs day to day. I try to go as slow as the wake will still stay clean. No perfect pass yet

Here is a short clip of the goofy side wave.

I run with 1100 lbs in surf side and fill the center 500 lbs full, no weight on non surf side, and make sure you are running in at least 10 feet of water. I am 215 lbs body weight and can surf easily without rope and about 6-10 feet from platform. I have also relocated my batteries to get the bag further to the back of the boat, this seems to make a difference, also if you can have someone sit on the surf side on the sundeck with feet hanging over, that helps also. Make sure all others in the boat are sitting on surf side if possible, a couple up front is fine. I run at 10.6 to 10.8 mph.
Good Luck

Without hijacking too much:
Looks like a good unit with a lot of features. Did you install yourself?
Thanks for the recommendation.

My boat is a 2011 Supreme V212 we load it with around 1400lbs of ballast. It came with a huge platform that screwed up the wake. We put a surf platform on it, just like the one that comes on a V226. Then we had aluminum brackets made at a jet boat shop that raised the platform 4 1/2". Here is a picture of the brackets. Installing a smaller platform and raising it really improved our wake.

Had an extra couple people in the boat this weekend and the wave was huge! just need a little more weight. Got a 750 I'll start putting on the seat.

Sue, thanks for posting that pic. I'll look into raising mine a few inches.

adrian, v230?

Nacho, your welcome. At the West Coast Open I rode behind two V230's that had dialed waves. One was Frank Wolters and the other was Mike Clemets both have sons that compete in the comps Chris and Hunter. Frank is on this forum quite a bit. I'm sure he would tell you how he has his set up.
Old     (denverd1)      Join Date: May 2004 Location: Tyler       06-23-2014, 2:08 PM Reply
Thanks sue! I'll get in touch with Frank and see how his is setup.

Also I noticed the thru-hull for the bilge exit is right at the water line when I've got the starboard side weighted. Do I need to add a check valve to that line? Didn't notice a whole lot of water coming in

Our setup in these pics is as follows:
-750 rear
-500 on seat
-500 mid ship (ski locker)
-200 bow
-1000 in people on surf side and rear (dont all fit on surf side)Name: uploadfromtaptalk1403573707894.jpg

We've found that 200-300lbs. in the bow really helps the surf wave by extending the pocket.

Hello, we all surf regular so I can't say this works on the goofy.
1100 surf side locker
750 surf side floor
400 surf side seat
400 rear seat nearest surf side.
This set up has good push, but to get phenomenal push you need at least 1, 200 lb person in the observers seat, I don't get why putting some in the bow locker doesn't do the same, but it doesn't. I do not fill the bow locker, yes it does extend the pocket a bit, but you lose some push, it's just not needed.

Oh yeah, speed... 10.5 via gps

Thanks Brent. Would love to see a pic of you wave if you have one handy. so thats 2650 all in the corner or as close to the corner as you can get it, plus your observer.

I'll snap some pics of mine this weekend. Last weekend we were running 1100 in locker + 750 on seat. 500 in center locker + 250 in lead in the bow. Had 5 people in the boat. Had some nice push and a fairly long pocket.

Nacho,
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you, have been away. I'll look for some pics, but I have never taken any just to show wave height and length, I will say though you can't see push in pics. I can make a great looking wave with just OK push, I can make the wave look just about the same with the set up I described to you and have incredible push. Anyway, I'll try and find one that is the best representation of my wave. The port quarter rub rail (surf side) is about 2 inches below the waterline when not making way.

Thanks Scott! They make a big difference, keeping the swim deck out of the surf wave. Now what to do with the original giant swim deck that came with the boat. Oh well. I miss surfing with you guys behind the Tige.

ya, we miss idaho as well. it's not the same here.. joe ever pick up a van for camping? figured you guys would be all over the pac nw this summer...

you could always turn the platform into a picnic table

another question for you port side riders. My bilge pump is mounted on starboard side about 16" from the transom. If listing to the port side, I end up with a good bit of water in bilge before the pump comes on. So belt and pulleys start getting wet, engine whines, etc. Can I relocate it further back in the center? I saw the rudder in there and can't interfere with that. Do you reloc the bilge pump somewhere else?

Yes, I did install it myself, it comes with good instructions and a basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical will serve you well. Justin as Ridesteady is always a phone call away as well!

I have not moved my platform up, It does touch the water just a bit, but properly weighted the wave is clean and big!

I put a 1100 in the back of my V230 last month filled it up and the center ballast. had no problem surfing without a rope. I weigh about 215lbs. I feel I need to add some more weight up front to stretch the wake a little more.

I have a 215, which I'm not sure if the 230 has the same transom or not, but I created my own "surf gate" that I think helped a lot. You can check it out here: http://http://www.wakeworld.com/foru...d.php?t=803045

What size and type of board are you riding scott? I am having trouble going ropeless being my v230 with 1100s except for right behind the boat.

I am building a wood surf gate as well but won't be able to use it for a few weeks. I will post pictures/videos with the results.

Sorry, just noticed you asked me if mine is a v230, and yes it is. I am just planning to raise my platform and add Puck board plastic to the underside to get rid of the lip.

I bought a v230 and it does not have a wake plate that is adjustable.should I change it to get a better wave?

My 2003 V230.
Just add weight to front and back and add a suck gate.

put 1100's in the corner. I've got another 600 to 700 pounds of lead I'll move to either under captains chair or observers. 400 lbs lead in the nose split evenly and a 750 in walkway. suckgate for sure

What have you guys done about the batteries and steering cable in the
Rear lockers? They take up about a third of the locker and have those baffel boards in front of the to protect them. Guys with 1100 # ballasts what did you do?

Thanks

steering cable is in the center under the engine
Batteries, on mine at least, are under the seat cushion just in front of the engine. I moved neither to accommodate 1100's.

you may look at sliding the battery box(es) forward in that compartment. there is room under the gunnels that would hold a battery box and keep it out of the bags way for the most part. you could also build a wall and stack the batteries in there if you didn't want to move further forward.
