Well I'm pretty much an idiot. I was putting in a bottle of Lucas Power Steering fluid in my 91 Ford Ranger and in the process I managed to drop the lid inside the power steering reservoir and I could not fish it out. I didn't know if it would be an issue or not so I starting my truck and the steering was good for about 5 seconds. Now I have pretty much no power steering and it's probably due to that cap I dropped in there. Is there anyway to get it out? If I take it to an auto shop what kind of cost am I looking at to fix it? The truck runs good but it's worth maybe $800. I don't want to drop tons of money just to remove a stupid cap that's logged in the reservoir. What should I do? thanks
Pull the pump, turn it upside down, and shake the cap out. Reinstall the pump, refill with fluid, purge the system, and be more careful with the cap next time.
