Anybody have some good tips on toe side off axis spins. I have on axis 3's and 5's dialed and I sometimes get my 3s off axis but it's never on purpose. I'm pretty sure it happens when I rush things and end spinning off the wake instead of waiting for the pop. Is this the correct way to get off axis or should I be using a trip/flip similar to a crow? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, this is a purdy easy trick as far as OA spins go. Really there are two main things to focus on while doing this trick. Approach and you pop. The approach, you wanna keep the handle in tight to your lead hip, I take a wide slow approach so I can generate enough speed but don't compromise my body position. So wide approach, handle in tight, knees bent, slightly more weight on your front foot, I like to think of it like your sticking your butt out a bit. As I enter the bottom of the wake, I transfer all my weight to my front foot; the key to his trick is bringing it up high and using a scarecrow style trip edge to bring it up. As you leave the wake I think about jumping up and over the handle, you want to pull the handle back and down, when I am teaching this trick I tell people you try to pull the handle into the back of your rear knee. This will pull you off axis and start you spinning. Look up and over your lead shoulder and reach for the handle. Make sure you keep the handle in tight on the approach, if you don’t your arm will be straight out and you will never catch the handle with your backhand. If you wanna take it to 7 take a faster approach and try and speed up the first portion of the trick, also keep your hands in tight.

On Last tip is to start trying to grab it right away, I grab nose or slob. This is a trick where learning the grab along with the trick will make it easier in the long run, much like a TS front roll, if you learn it w/o the grab adding it later is hard, because its easy to get some bad habits.

Good Luck!

Check my profile to see the body position to get into.

* Andy's words are right on, the only thing I'll add is that for me, just pulling the handle to me rear knee wasn't enough to get off axis...

I pull through like a normal 540 but take my front knee and lift it up towards me when I pop (if that makes sense).... My OA stuff looks different than Andy's, his looking better so maybe you don't want to do that, its just the only way I can.
