Is it possible?

Is it dumb, to save up for an older inboard, while i'm a senior in high school? I'm not talking about a 2001 even. just an old inboard, so i can be able to ride more often. I always like to have a project, and a boat just seems like a fun project to have in the winter, and a fun project to be in during the summer. I know i'd have to worry about gas, and insurance, and maintenance, but i think if i split the price with my brother, and then get a boat around 3 or 4 thousand, because they come up pretty often.

I don't care about having the best wake, but i just want something to get me on the water.

I think that this kind of project is a great idea. As a young man, I never had the means to have a boat, but with some determination, I could have made it happen. If you are willing to work for it, I think that you will get a huge amount of satisfaction out of it.

Is it dumb ? No ! Your asking a bunch of people obvioulsy addicted to boating so I doubt you'll get a different reply. If you can afford it go for it. To start off small and put your own work and effort into your 1st boat is a great way to learn and appreciate this very costly sport. It doenst matter what boat you have as long as you enjoy it and appreciate it. Being on the water, like you said, is the most important thing. Good luck with your project !

I started with a really good friend when I was about 19, we got a 84 centurion tru trac, put a tower on it, built tower speakers out of sewer pipes, put a stereo in etc... worked well for a few years. We put a ton of hours on it, good times.

We sold it, got a line of credit and bought a 2000 Supra Launch which was loaded.

Rode that for 3 years and sold it this summer.

Just bought a 2006 VLX with our funds from selling the supra and the line of credit.

I think (starting young) it is a great way to get into the boating/wakeboarding lifestyle. You will learn a ton about engines, boating in general, and you won't be wrecking a new expensive boat if you screw up.

Go for it, just make sure your partner has the same interest as you and is willing to share all of the costs. Always consider your partner before making plans, holidays etc...

Me and my buddy now live across the street from each other with him on the lake and he has a boat slip. Worked out perfectly.

Best wake for the money. I bought the boat for $4k, putting another 4k into restoring it and will have an awesome boat when done. Plus the wake is awesome.
