I want to hear some opinions on the softest landing board out there...is it the Marius? One of the LF boards with "D.I.S.C" (aka watson/axis)? Maybe something really cool that I don't even know about? If anyone's ridden a few of these I could use a little opinionated comparison.

Might be obvious. I changed from a 133 CWB Zane Shwenk pro model 2000 ; to a 140 Marius '07.

The landings arnt nearly as jolting. The board might be kinda slow in the water though. Im still transitioning to the board. Landing, but not taking the tricks as big.

^^^joking.

a lot of people say the fish, marius, and pretty much anything with a v-bottom (or double v).

slingshot has received a lot of praise too

i ride an 07 marius all the time and landings are great. However nothing beats a slingshot for landing soft.

The Transcend has been the softest landing board, for me.

Oh ya if you have a stiff board ,when you land,YOUR BOARD WON'T BUCKLE UNDER THE PRESURE.
WHICH IS KNOWN AS PUSHING WATER.

Slingshot for sure. I used to think that boards with center spines were all-that when it came to softness of landings, but slingshot's flex technology makes center spines seem obsolete.

Slingshot is relatively new and i doubt everyone here giving suggestions has ridden one... TRUE, i have not ridden many of the boards they are listing, but i just have a hard time believing anything will land softer. Maybe the other aspects of slingshot's ride might not be to your liking, but the landings will over-satisfy your craving for pillowed landings.

P.S. Is there anyone who has ridden a Slingshot who thinks another board is a softer landing????? just curious.}

Another thing to consider about slingshot--- the '07 binding's foot-beds were not what i would have considered "double thickness" like all the others, BUT, despite a comparatively thinner bed, the landings were still amazingly soft. AND, the 2008 bindings will have thicker foot-beds... or if you prefer to use another company's binding, 2008 slingshot boards will allow this, but at a small sacrifice of flex due to the wider base plate of other companies bindings (the '07's did not)

I ride the '06 Shane.... real soft landing but I heard a lot of good things about the Marius and the Slingshot!!!

Marius wins! I can see where a flex board will offer soft landings, but you will sacrifice pop if your technique isnt 100% on point.

Marius wins for soft landings and great pop.

all boards will land soft if you ride wake to wake

dude, you will find on here most poeple think whatever they ride lands the softest. end of story.

Jeremy, I have ridden the Slingshot quite a few times. While I think it can land pretty soft if you land tail heavy or wake to wake. The thing lands like a ton of bricks if you land centered over the board. I like the Slingshot concept and design, I'm just not sold like everyone else. Its a good board for anyone that rides a big wake & has a great progressive edge. If you are still working on fundamentals a Slingshot is a hard board to ride. I think eventually we will see a hybrid that incorporates flex with bottom features, I anxiously await this day.

slingshot...

Stephan, I personally didnt think centered landings were all that bad, but maybe compared to a marius (never rode) or a shane(never rode either) it might be lacking... i don't know. As for bottom features, i wondered about that too. Apparently one of the reasons for the lack of, is because bottom features like channels and molded in fins will create ridged areas in the board and making a less consistent flex in the thicker areas of the board. I read somewhere in alliance mag. about an article on Slingshot, comparing slingshot to surf boards and how surf boards are relatively featureless on the bottom. I thought it was a good point, but still I remain partially curious about "hybrid" options/ potentials in the future

Jerm, I have heard a few comments about the slingshot being unfriendly to beginners, but what people (1st time learners and up) i PERSONALLY have seen ride the Slingshot have thoroughly enjoyed it(except for maybe one girl who thought it was ok). The slingshot recoil has boosted me higher and further than i have ever gone before. BUT, i have never ridden a marius... though i would like to, mainly because of its unique shape and rocker pattern.
With that said, supposedly it really is bad for those with bad technique. Maybe such a board as slingshot's will help teach riders better technique in the long run. I know it has helped my edging skills a ton, especially toe-side cuts, even with my old board. I'll be honest and say that the slingshot board took me longer to get used to than any other board (about 3 runs), but it has been well worth it.

I havn't rode a slingshot, but I would think nothing could land softer. Exect maybe a roam or covenant?

to be honest...after i torn my mcl/pcl, i've been 'jedi'd' to go too big to the flats because the boards landed so hard (3ds, state, parks, murray) and then i tried the drive which was better, but now i am riding my marius and i love goin' big now...trying to get as big as i can. It's good on my knees and that helps me to have fun out there.
