Hey guys, just tried out my new acme prop on my 92' supra sunsport. I went from a 14dia, 14 pitch to a 13dia, 11.5 pitch and the rpms jumped from about 3K when weighted at approx 23mph to nearly 4K with the same weight and speed. The boat planes much better now (the 351 PCM would barely plane with the old prop) but I'm worried this may be a little high in the rpm range. Any opinions?? Acme does have a 12 pitch also, would this be better suited? Thanks

did you ask before buying the prop?

4K!!! That seems WAY high at only 23mph especially for any older 351. You are def. gonna compromise top end when you start adding low but there should be something better than that. If you bought it directly from ACME you can exchange the prop for a different one. They are a really great company to work with. Their customer service is why I continue to spend the extra money for their products.

Oh ya, I got opinions from a guy at acme and another at delta. One recommended the 11.5 pitch and the other said I could probly do either.

Joe,

I have a supra 22 SS that came standard with a 13*13 4 blade OJ. At 1K+ Ballast I am spinning about 3200 +/-100 at 23mph. You did not say what kind of weight you have but 4K sounds way too high to me. Your fuel consumption / wear on motor will be higher IMO. I sounds like you may be running the ACME 543 3 blade? and the one you are considering (12 pitch) sounds like the ACME 541. That is the one that was recommended to me by Acme (3 blade) because I am considering uping my ballast to 1500 lb but want to keep my current hole shot and rpm.

I belive the prop you got is for a 1:1 transmission, you probably have a reduction gear there and that's why you're spinning so mych RPM.
Or that is just too much weight for your boat.

You need a bigger prop or not load the hell out of the boat.

Thanks for the info guys.

Leonard, I am running the acme 543 and considering the 541. I run over 2K of ballast which I know is alot for that motor but it's neccessary to sink the huge hull on the boat. I'm definately going to look into the 541

Joe,

I would be very interested in your experience with the 541 if you get it. Please let me know!

ciao...LA

Just got some info from the guys at delta props, they said the 541 would only turn 100 rpm less than the 543...not sure what to do now : (
