What Speed Do Pro-Wakeboarders Ride????

You know, I've always wondered what speed do they ride at, like Benny G, Lyman, Harf, etc...

Lyman rides at like around 30 with a really long line as well as Randall Harris.

Not sure about Harf, but Benny G rides a shorter rope with a shorter speed I think

Always wondered the same thing looks like there flyin. I know i ride 21-22 at 65 feet and always looks like I am creepin along.

I think Harris has said anywhere from 27 to 28 depending on which article you read or who you ask and he rides at like 90 ft.

I was reading Derek Grasman's blog he said he rode 85 ft at 26 I think. When I was taking lessons at owc the coach pulling me said most guys he knew rode 80 ft around 24-25.

I would guess most of the pros are riding at around 80'-85' at 25 or 26

Well, sometimes it appears effortless when one sees them jumping the wake. It would be helpfull/nice to know what they ALL ride at.

lyman rides 27-28 on a 90ft line. like nick said, ive heard randall rides similar.

26 on an 85ft line seems to be a pretty good ball park for most guys out there

Anywhere between 24 and 26. There are some exceptions that ride faster. Ricky G, Randall and Lyman are some of those guys.

Usually 80 or 85' of rope depending on what boat they're riding behind. The above mentioned guys will go 90-95' of rope depending on boats.

Just because you've got their speed and rope length dialed in doesn't mean it'll help you ride like them. Nobody learned at 85' and 26mph. Work your way up. I stayed at 70'- 75' and 22mph for a long time. Pretty much learned all the tricks I know that way.

I just got a text from Maurice, Lyman's personal assistant, and he is going to ride at 62.5' and 19mph this year

at wakeboard comps is there a "standard" speed all the riders have to ride at to make it equal for everyone, or is it up to each rider?

Ewing is right! Lyman not only has a personal assistant, but also a dog trainer for Emma and a concierge at his house.

He is changing his rope length/speed (to 62.5 / 19) because he feels it will put him in a position behind the boat where the judges will finally be able to see him. At his current length (91.5) and speed (27) he landed his tricks so far into the flats that the judges would miss half his pass.

I am pretty sure they let Travis dial it in at the comps. Maybe not

I think Roger is correct, I haven't ever heard a rider ask Travis for for a specific speed, they trust him to make the wake the best it can be for the condition that day. They will from time to time ask for a speed adjustment during a pass, not very often though.

Roger and Randy are 100% correct. Travis is the man, and he would probably laugh at you if you told him how fast to go. I've never had to tell him anything, and its always spot on.
