Is there a reference source that can provide a general consensus as to proper board length for the weight of the rider? Or a conversion chart such as 1.25 cm in length for each pound? Yeah, I know it will vary by mfg. and design, but in trying out different boards I would like to make sure I am a least in the ball park. I weigh 175 lbs. Any info would be appreciated.

go to the board wizard
http://www.wakeworld.com/Wizard/Boards.asp
and usually most board company websites will have a chart with the weight range for each board.

You want a 135-142 range.

Length is only but one measurement. The length you should ride not only varies from brand to brand but board to board. and then its personal preferance after that. But being 175lbs I would start looking at 138-142.

Mike - DUUUUUUUUDE, you think too much! You gotta ride a couple different boards and see what length you like. Should I ride a 142? According to a chart, absolutely NOT! but, I'm going to because I like it.

I wouldn't mind riding a 147 for a set... seems like it might be fun. I'm only 150 by the way, I might just take the girls on the boat for a ride with me.

You gotta take one out, those really long boards are so much fun! You can ollie so high. IMO only way to go. But I am bigger than you guys, but still, you have to try it.

Here is one site's recommendations for board size vs. weight:

well according to that chart I better sell my 142 and get a 132.

Wow it says I should be riding around a 132... I do ride a 133.5 Trip Ultracore but 136ish is my perfect size. That chart sucks!

Should height be taken into consideration also? The charts seem to go just by weight, but I'm pretty tall for a girl, so what the charts recommend by my weight seems very short to me. And does a longer board give more stability whereas a shorter board would be more responsive?

Up to 160 lbs

132 - 133cm

Ouch, better chop 7cm off my natural.

Read the bottom of the chart maybe. heres what it says "The chart above is a general sizing chart for beggining riders. Skill level, riding style, and board model are major factors to consider for ADVANCED riders." thats a little more helpful
