I am thinking about upgrading to the Parks board from thf fluid. The question is DNA or Biolite?

I always try to stick with DNA... i like the lighter boards, i can tell the difference when riding... but everyone is different...

BIOLITE, they're more reliable and the weight doesn't really make any difference, some flex more than others making a slight feel but a wakeboard doesn't function like a snowboard where flex and geometry make up rideability, a wakeboard is like a boat, the hull is designed to work a certain way, boat hulls don't flex, companys like core have tried flex boardz and look where it got them. you will almost never see any of the pros ride they're DNA's during anything other than a photo shoot, they break easy, they're available for kids/posers with to much money.... no offense aaron

Hey Daniel I have a parks 138 DNA '03 for sale e-mail me if youre interested. In the way of DNA or Biolite I havent had any problems and either have my friends with the DNA.

The weight doesn't really make a difference in 'your opinion'. And the stiffness doesn't matter in 'your opinion'. To some it does. All boards break. The pros are going to destroy all of their boards. Ever think that they don't ride the DNAs because HL would rather they destroy the cheap boards, rather than going though dozens of the more-expensive-to-mfg boards? Just a thought. They're both good boards. If you can get the DNA on close-out prices, that's what I would go with. It's close to the same price that most paid for the Biolite in the prime season.

Maverick is that what Darin told you? First of all, DNA Boards dont flex and all boards break. What it really comes down to is weight.

Darin who>? and ya yor right thats my opinion i usually say that after all my posts so not to make anyone mad but i forgot, and im sorry if i was kinda rude with that post, i just think that with wakeboards expensive cores like that are kinda silly especially when they get so much money for them and IN MY OPINION they make virtually no difference at all, plus when you are Hyperlite and LF it doesn't cost you anymore to have the Balsa made, they just want you think that, plus i know i am nobody special and if Gator, byerly and Nelly and the oldskoolers can do all those tricks they could a decade ago on skirfers and flight 69's i should be able to do it on todays foam board without worrying about 2 pounds if you feel me, and once again i didn't mean to be an ass...

That's cool. I didn't think you were being an ass. Just pointing out that those factors are important to some. Bylery and the rest of the old-schoolers were doing inverts on skurkers with sandle bindings. But current technology still brings advantages for the average riders.

hey daniel, i think i am in the same boat as you, i am upgrading from a entry board to a good one, and i demo'd the 03 prem Bio and DNA. Now i'm not a good rider, no inverts or big spins, but i found a huge difference between the boards, they both ride very nice, but it takes a couple of jumps to get used to DNA, purely for the fact that when your in the air you can hardly feel the bloody thing because its so light, and the first few times your thinking "where the hells the board?" anyway thats how i found it, do ou guys agree with me?

I wonder how the board rides in the water. At one time I had a regular double up board and my buddy had the same board with a honeycomb construction. My board felt like it rode deeper in the water than the honeycomb which made for a more solid edge, but, the honeycomb seemed to release faster. I wonder if riding deeper with a better edge will get more pop? I guess I have to try the experiment again now that I am a little better rider than I was then.

don't forget the psychological aspect "I paid more for it so it MUST be better" and "they claim a lb is important so it MUST be better"

this phenomenon is typically proportional to the ability of the rider.

dna is not worth the cost IMO.

I like Tim's psychological aspect haha.

I ride the Parks 138 DNA and my brother has the Parks 138 Biolite. The weights are almost the same (not supposed to be but they are) but he and I agree that we get a little better pop from the DNA.

Oh, and to defend myself (MaverickLTD) the place I bought it from offered the DNA for only $20 more than the biolite - so I took it.
Old    andystrawn            11-04-2003, 2:05 PM Reply
The Pros don't even ride DNA and they get them for free. That says it all right there.
Old    wakeboard_iraq            11-04-2003, 2:08 PM Reply
I know the pro's dont ride them that often b/c of durability issues - but how many of us go that big and hit sliders that hard? Not me - thats for sure.

You would think HL would want the pros to ride the more expensive boards = to help promote them better... interesting !

ya, interesting....

The lighter sensation you get from being on a DNA board is caused by the missing $100 out of your wallet.

ps-send me one hundred of your extra dollars and I will tell you that DNA is better, until then get a Biolite.

"DNA Boards dont flex"

what? BAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. All boards break, and ALL BOARDS FLEX, my friend. You're jaded.

some of you have very relevant points.

Tim - I have the same view point as you.

The only way that I would buy a DNA core is if I really really really really really really REALLY, really REALLY liked the graphic better, and thought the Biolite graphic was the most hideous thing I've ever seen, and, maybe not even then would I get DNA.

Toolfan - good one. HAHAHAHA

Daniel - have you ridden a Parks?

Every time I ride I think, "only if my board was a pound lighter."

I hear you Andrew and Rod. My cousin has the Premier Biolite and I rode it alot early this year. Then I decided to upgrade my board and I had decided after riding several boards to go with the Premier.

I called up the folks at Grizzly Sports and they hooked me up with a blem DNA Premier for $20 more than a blem Biolite. I wasn't really expecting there to be much of a difference and for $20 more I said what the hell.

The first time I rode it felt very strange. The board seemed to sit higher in the water and seemed to ride a little looser. Once I got used to the ride and started to get aggressive with my cuts, IN MY OPINION the pop was noticeably bigger.

I have to say first I didn't buy the board because I am some sort of poser or have extra money laying around to waste. Second, I really liked my cousin's Biolite Premier, but I absolutely love my DNA Premier.

So IN MY OPINION, I think there was a remarkable difference between the Premeir in the Biolite and DNA models. Does that make me frivolous or a poser? I really don't care because it didn't cost me much more than a Biolite and I couldn't be happier. Peace.

Since boards do flex I also think they get tired. What I mean by saying this is a board flexes and returns to it's original shape quickly. When it gets tired it doesn't return to it's original shape as quickly, therefore lacking some pop. This is all theoretically speaking of course. What do you guys think?

Pretty much what Hyperlite says:

"CORES OF LIFE - WHEN A BOARD HITS THE TROUGH BEFORE THE PEAK OF THE WAKE, THERE IS A TREMENDOUS DOWNWARD FORCE CAUSING THE BOARD TO COMPRESS. AS IT LEAVES THE PEAK OF THE WAKE, THE DECK RECOILS. THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY PRODUCED FROM THIS STORED ENERGY IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENT TO HOW MUCH LIFT A BOARD WILL HAVE OFF THE WAKE."

Guess that is why I can't stick my 9's anymore on my '03... my board is tired

If you suck on biolite, your still going to suck on DNA

Thane,
In response to your question, I have an old beat-up 2000 Byerly foam core, one of the first from HL. The rails have been repaired multiple times, but they are straight. Anyway, it probably has well over 100 days on it and a respectable amount of jibbing. I'm no outlaw, but I can hold my own with the older guys. So, I was struggling last summer with HSFS5s and figured maybe my board was "tired" and lacking that last little bit of pop that I needed. I know from experience that this can be an issue with wood core snowboards. Anyway, this past spring I found a leftover closeout Byerly board of the exact same model that had never been ridden - had apparently fallen through the cracks in some shop's stockroom - so I bought it hoping that it would be more lively. So the upshot is that I cannot tell one bit of difference. The new one and the old one behave exactly the same, and if I'm not looking down, I couldn't tell which one I was riding. So, I have concluded that HL foam core wakeboards do not suffer from the same problem that wood-core snowboards do by becoming "tired" after they have been used a lot. Both of these boards, however, do most certainly do have some degree of flex when they are ridden. Just my experience, so take it for what it's worth.

Doc - I think I had heard you tell that story once before. That is very interesting and it intrigues me very much. Every experiment has to start with a theory and my theory is that boards do get tired. You're test and results showed otherwise. We should get some more people to do the same thing and post their results or maybe there are some people out there that HAVE done the same thing. I have another question for you: Have you ridden a DNA core board and Biolite core board of the same model? If you have, could you tell the difference?

Very Nice profile pic BTW.
