I have had 3 surgeries on my knee over the last 10 years or so. I shattered the knee and broke both lower bones in a motorcycle race. Since then I have had a torn ACL and 2 torn meniscus. Now I am wakeboarding for a about a year and looking for support for my knee. What do you recommend.I don't want to have to see a doctor to measured for a custom brace. Thanks in advance Don C

spend the money and get a CTi. ots (off the shelf) fits as good as a custom. do a search on this site. the guy who works for cti answered a ton of questions a month or 2 ... or 3 ago.

spend the money and get a CTI custom, worth every penny and in some cases covered by insurance. They fit like a glove. I have been wearing the same one for 5 years and it has saved me so many times. Now i need one for the other knee unfortunately

x3 for the CTI. They have the best brace on the market right now. The fit and finish are excellent, and the customer service is top notch. The are worth every penny, and if you get your insurance to cover it, then get two.

I have Kaiser, they won't cover it. I found the cti at the brace shop for 478.00 is that a good price or where do you recommend to get it from. Thanks for all your input Don

asterisk makes really good knee braces. My brother has been riding with them for over a year since he tore his ACL/MCL. They come with a knee pad but its removable but the pad comes in handy for snowboarding

depends on what model brace that was 478? I thought the customs were over a thousand, or at least they were at one point.

thats the one at the brace shop for 478. the guy that works for Cti said no need to get the Pro Sport , he said it was overkill, i little more carbon fiber and not needed for wakeboarders...

i would call them up and ask if it has ---Proprietary Sensil® padding eliminates migration of the knee brace on the leg.

i know the pro-sport does.
i have a donjoy that moves all over the place, im getting a CTi this year. and i spent $450 for the don joy...

I second the asterisk braces. I use them on both knees as "insurance".

you definately have to have the anti migration system.

I have a Ossur CTi Pro Sport, off the shelf purchased for $550(approx) I measured wrong and they sent me a replacement, it slipped a little and they sent me a strap that fixed the slipage, to a degree...I've been told all braces move, my insurance approved a custom brace after my acl and micro fracture surgery, should arrive within a week....hope it's AWESOME!
Great customer service from Ossur.

agreed I'm going to a cti from a donjoy. Three ACLs later two of which happened while in the Donjoy I'm sick of having surgeries and rehab. save yourself the time, alot of pain, and money and get the cti.

Just reinjured my knee while wearing a donjoy in a hockey game. I believe the cause was brace migration. I'm going back to custom, CTI here i come

Ok so.... I have an asterick but when my leg reachs full strength was going to probably get the CTi. Has anyone been in both and can me a fair firsthand account of the differences?

I would get a hold of Brett Guerin. He took REALLY good care of me and my questions and concerns. He also has a much better handle on how we use these braces as opposed to most ortho's.

Here is a link to his profile:

Here is a link to a similar thread where he posts some good information:

Good luck...BTW I love my CTI Braces and I paid for them out of pocket (plus insurance) so no "sponsor plug / pushaman" here.

Hey Don - glad to hear that you got a CTi OTS. I am assuming you got the Pro Sport because you also ride dirtbikes (based on your "KTM 525" name)? I would strongly recommend you order an AMS wrap for the brace when you use it for wakeboarding($12 and worth every penny - & make sure you let them know you have an OTS). It is a circumferential neoprene padding configuration that really locks the brace in place. It is what I have all our pro riders using. Also, it keeps your Sensil padding nice and fresh for any out-of-water activities you use the brace for. Please hit me up with any questions.

If you have insurance, goto your orthopedic surgeon and get a Don Joy.

I rode both days this weekend with my CTI OTS Pro Sport. I Opened the box adjusted the hinge for the operation range I wanted. The width was perfect, tight on both sides of my knee. I used it and fell in love with it. I wore it the whole day even when I was not riding, It stayed in place all day, gave me great support, motion was great also. I love this brace. Thanks everyone for your advice.

just a hint for new cti users - i always wet the straps before i put my brace on. the straps stretch a little when they're wet, so it's good to either wet them first, or re-tighten them all after your first fall - or both!
the other key to stopping migration (without the AMS) is to make sure the bottom strap is angled up so it sits just above the widest part of your calf. if that strap is on or below the widest part of your calf it will slip down as you ride.
