Should have hit me up a few months ago....10.5 is probably one of my favorite lenses ever. The 16mm just doesn't quite cut it.

Anyways, if you can't find a used one just by a new one. Nobody should be without a good fish

Bakes,
i was thinking about you going full frame when i posted this...

so you have sold it, is what i am getting????

it sucks because yesterday i found one on fredmiranda for 375 and so i threw 340 at the person and she went and sold it right after saying 340 was too low... i should have just paid full price. live and learn i guess

Wow...I would love to grab a fish for $375.

I've got the Tokina 10-17 fisheye as a rental that has to go back tomorrow. I'm strongly considering buying this lens, but maybe I should take the Nikkor 10.5 for a test drive first.

I was planning to get a 70-300 VR, but I've made a deal to pool lenses with a friend who has one so the fisheye is up the list a bit.

Good luck with your search!

one thing i've learned is that it's tough to weasel down prices on good glass.

nate, the 10.5 is sick! i'll dig through my hard drives and look for my fishy shots.

as for the 70-300vr, save your money and get the 70-200.

70-300mm VR -> $450 good lens for the price
70-200mm VR -> $1715 if you have the money to spend
80-200mm -> $875 - not a bad lens wt is slightly less than 70-200mm VR.

That's going to be a long time to save for a lens.

I picked up a tamron 70-200 for $80 shipped... not the best lens ever but for less than $100 its hard to beat.

Check the classifieds of Nikonians.org. You have to register which is free. Good stuff for sale there all the time.

i dont read all the post before, but i want let you know my opinion.

i have the 10,5 fish on my nikon d300, but for wake pictures, its for most cases to close. in all the years i have the lens now, i used them maybe 3 times and everytime i tried a lot with it (new perpectives etc.). but in all the years, i only took one good photo with it!

you have to be very close to the pbject with this fish! you need a extra dome port in your waterhousing, which is very expensive too.

the 10,5 is for wakeboard photografie not the best choice. go and spend your money, if not already exist in a 70-200 2,8. this is the must have lens!

the fisheye is if you have everything in the bag already.

thanks pat.
I do have a full bag of gear so far and have the 70-200 2.8 and an ultra wide 10-20 sigma but i want the fish aswell. I landed an internship with Surfer magazine for february and so i want to get some stuff from really deep in the barrels with a fish.

if you have the 10.5 but dont use it much is there any chance you want to sell it????

let me know.
thanks dude

@Joshua

no, i dont sell it. and the price difference between europe and us is hugh. here it cost usally 599€ whats means in us is close to 1000$!

and your bag is only with a fish complete! :-)
for surfing with a waterhousing its a fantastic lens. i only want to note that this is not the best lens for wakeboard shoting.
