i can ride behind either one. we tried behind the xstart this past weekend and couldnt really get it. i think we might have had too much weight on one side. i had a 350 sac fill up in the bow (left it there after wakeboarding), the center ballast full (400 lbs) and then a 600 lb sac in the back on one side. is that 600 lbs too much? we were trying different speeds and turning a little sharper, but we couldnt really get it. any advice on either of these boats?

we have found it depends mostly on 2 things, going the right speed, and the board. behind my boat we typically go right around 9mph, and have tried 4 different surfboards. 2 of the 3 shortboards we have tried we have not been able to ride on, and the other board was a fun shape. if you go too fast, you will fall behind. as for weighting, that sounds pretty good to me, perhaps take the 350 and put it in the back on the same side. good luck, it is a lot of fun.

Tim, I haven't tried this behind my boat but am interested in doing so. As a fellow big guy with the same boat, I was wondering if you could give me the info on how you run. How much weight and where do you put it? Wedge down? What are the dimensions on the surf board you have been successful with?

paul, last night for example: wedge down, MLS full, 500lb sac on left of engine, and 350 lb sack on top of that but further back so partially on rear seat. driver, 2 people sitting on sacks. ~9mph, and a constant left hand turn. the board we have had the most success with is the fun shape board, which is around 7'6 i think.

don't need much more, as the wake is pretty surfable. if you try more let me know how it works (Message edited by timmy on June 23, 2003)

Tim, my impression is that bigger people need a bigger board otherwise the wave gets stomped. Do you get this sense too?

dane, I don't have enough experience (been wakesurfing 5 times) to give you an answer to that question, but what i have noticed is either everyone could or everyone couldn't ride a particular board. the same boards i couldn't keep going on, my buddies who surf a lot and are a lot lighter couldn't either. I am curious to try one of the 'wakesurf' boards but not willing to shell out the dough when we can just use the fun shape.

Dane, I'm thinking along those lines. I have a Landlock that I haven't had much luck with. When I slow the boat down to get a nicely shaped wake and start to feel the push from the wave, the tip of the board is just about under water. I have an Inland Surfer Green room on the way, thinking the the extra width and 6 inches of length should fix that problem. I'll let you know what happens when I get the new board.
