Doesn't look like the cables failed. Maybe the bunks were too small for the boat. Mine are angled back, the only place mine could go is back (possibly)

Most of the ballast would be in the center or back of the boat. Someoen needs to get the story because I dont even know if I could do something like that if I tried.

Alcohol is involved in over 65% of boating accidents. Stupidity another 20%, and the other 15% are simply unavoidable. Ok so I made up the last two, but alcohol is a major factor in most boating accidents. Unknown what the cause of this accident is, but most likely...

Well in that case I bet they pulled the boat too far onto the lift. Lifted it up as far as they could and then threw 9 or 10 kegs in the bow of the boat.

How could you pull it to far onto the lift? the bow would hit dock? I'm assuming there decking in front if the boat, similar to mine?

The pickle fork adds so much additional weight to the bow that a normal lift can't handle it, jk. I'm curious how someone does this too.

It doesnt look like that lift was configured to that boat. The cables look to close together but i could be way off.

Anyone else notice how high the lift is. Probably the tower hit the roof and broke the front cable.....

the bunks seem real short for that 23ft xstar. you can barely see mine here, but they are the entire length of the boat.

Adam, do you know what is the weakest part of your lift? is it the chains/cables or the wood supports? just curious cause mine is all ibeams, but im still nervous with all the lead I have in the boat.

That happened to my family's cobalt a few years ago. It was lifted in a summer house they have in Austin, and rain permeated throught the boathouse into the boat and soon it was pretty heavy to hold up and a calbe snapped or something (could have been the rolling tube too). Luckily the bow wasn't more than 4 feet higher than the dock and it didnt do much damage, other than broken wood on the dock. The water did do some damage inside of the boat since there was nobody at the house for a couple of weeks.

Dude its all about the pullys. It looks like you have a 6000 lbs lift and only a 3500 lb boat so you should be ight.

from the picture, it looks like they put some sort of bunks on top of an old-style sling lift. On the front cable, you can see a canvas sling. And yes, the cables are way too close together; it would need to be perfectly balanced to work. Fairly obvious what can happen if its not.

DJ, the cables are probably the weakest link. I had the same setup as you, and had a cable break after 10 years. It had one section that was fairly rusted. Luckily, I had just started to lift and the front corner snapped. No damage to the boat or lift. When the cables start looking old and worn, time to replace.

thanks kyle, never could get an educated guess from anyone (bought the house with the dock already there).

boats 4500 tho, grand of lead in it :-)
