I am building a winch on the cheap and am starting to see some that have brakes. Is a brake needed? I am using a clutch that I may upgrad later depending on how much we use it.

Thanks for any info, Nick

also do I need to set up a throttle or can you rev the 6.5 honda clones like they come stock?

Thanks again, Nick

Ive used several winches without a brake, so it isn't crucial, but it is REALLY nice to have. for the driver and the rider.

No idea on the other question.

Thanks caleb, I think I am going to go with out one for now and I have seen winches that have a brake lever hooked up to the throttle kinda like a snowmobile set up I think I am going to try that.

No, you dont need a brake. A soon as you let off, the clutch stops it fairly quickly. And yes, the Honda clones do have throttles on the side of them. We hooked up a throttle remote on ours but before that we just used the throttle on the side of the motor. Hope that helps
