I was inspired to start my "winter" list after reading a few Threads. I'm going to remove the hard ballast tanks this weekend and replace them with bags. Anything I should know before starting? Any advise? Looks pretty strait forward.

On the V230 I had to remove the hinges and then it was do-able. Tight squeeze but nothing you can't do by yourself.

Thanks Patrick, yea it looks tight!! Did the aluminum brackets slide off the tanks?

take some pictures, b/c my tanks are coming out too. Then I want to install fat sacs.

Harry (LOL...) - take a few pics. I have a 215 too and am interested in how it goes for you. I wont get to this for a couple months as I am focusing on the stereo at this point.

Also, in the previous thread, it looks like you may be able to get an 1100# soft sac in that compartment. Not sure if you'll get a full 1100#, but you will get the max compartment fill...

One more thing: you may want to consider a backflow valve too as long as you'll have the pump hoses disconnected. NOt sure of which one, but this would help to prevent the tanks from self draining. My 215 hard tanks self drain, which sucks. There is probably a cheap anti-backflow valve out there somewhere, I just havent searched for it yet...

Best of luck and please post some pics.

Thanks!

You can use a vented hose loop to relieve the vacuum issue. Sounds like a good project. How big of sac can you fit in the locker once the hard tank is removed?

I'm going to measure the locker after tank removal and have some custom bags made to fit.

Looking forward to seeing the pictures, I've got to get rid of mine too. They're useless for surfing!

Would like to see pics, I have hard tanks but putting sacks in at some time could be a way to go for more weight

Andrew you are right! I would fill 2 400lbs bags plus the hard tank to surf and of course my wife is goofy foot! It just took to long and moving stuff in and out of lockers got old fast... It's going to be nice just to flick the switch.

Harry - Would it be possible to put together a group buy on custom sacs? Looks like we have some interest here with Sanger V215 dudes - I know I am interested.

There are standard sacs that may work, but if you design a custom one let us know, and maybe we can join together for a group buy and lower everyones cost. Just a suggestion.

DW sounds good to me. Before I purchase I will ask if we can get a "volume" discount.

I can put in my order for customs finally.

Dennis - why did you suggest two different sacs? Wont the 1130#'er fit in all Sanger V215's?

The 1130#'ers fit the V237 rear lockers.

Andrew/all, I just put a deposit down on a 2009 237 at the Austin Boat Show and I'd be interested in getting in on a group buy for custom bags if you can wait a week (doing final test drive/ride next weekend weather permitting.)

Very psyched on joining the Sanger crew. My Supra 21v has been a great boat, but it can't build the killer surf wave I'm looking for. Speaking of killer surf waves, I do have one question. The boat I'm getting has the trim tabs that come with the surf package, but still has the original platform. Should I be concerned about the impacts to the surf wave? They have one more left over 09 with the surf platform, but I didn't like the color scheme as well. I've been told it doesn't make much difference by someone who owns the same configuration, but would be interested in a 2nd opinion.

Congratulations on the purchase. You will love the surf wake behind the V237. IMO the best surf boat on the market. Easy to weight same weight either side. The surf swim deck is nice buy the stock swim deck will also work well. I don't think the stock deck hurts the wake that much. The platform is smooth underneath and doesn't churn up the water like other decks with a lip underneath. Both of these pictures are with the stock swim deck

I tested a base 237 with Dennis last year. It didn't have any of the tabs or adjusted swim platform. That boat made a great wave.

The 215/237 have a great hull shape, so you can't go wrong - even if you don't get every last option. Comparing the two boats, the one I tested and the one I have now, I don't think I'd easily be able to point out the benefits of the adjusted platform over the stock.

As for the group buy, i'd be interested in that. Not really in a rush either, our season doesn't start til April up here.

The removal of the tanks wasn't to bad at all. It took me a total of around 1 1/2 hours. 15 min of that was removing batt on both sides and stereo wiring. The biggest pain in the A@# was the removal of the tank brackets, not alot of room to wiggle them off. I will post pics later today of before and after. Those hard tanks take up alot of room!
Old     (gunz)      Join Date: Sep 2001       01-18-2010, 7:54 PM Reply
I pulled my hard tanks outta my V210 back in October, and opted for some 450/500lb sacks.

BOYAY!!!

Now,if they could just get some more fittings in stock I'd be in "flip of the switch" business.

It wasn't bad at all! I have rough measurements for the custom bags 50 long x27wide x20deep. It may not be worth the extra money to make a custom bag? I'm calling tomorrow to get a answer. I may just go with 50x20x20!?

Hey I was thinking about doing this as well, sometime in the future. I see the 50x20x20 is 750 LBS, do you think it might be worth it to flyhigh 50x24x24, which holds 1100 LBS. It may not fill to capacity, but will fill up the compartment better maximizing the weight for surfing. Am I way off on this? Just seems that four inches isn't a huge deal and I found a site with the bag for under $200. Also are you guys just using the factory pumps??
Old     (taft)      Join Date: Jul 2006       01-20-2010, 12:50 PM Reply
Or have the full fitting bag with some lead under it. I'm considering doing that myself.

Update. I spoke to Mike Seipel at Fly High and it sounds like a custom bag costs around $100.00 more per bag to make than the new 24x24x50 bag they are making. Mike told me the 24x24x50 should sell for $199.00 per bag. For me it's not worth it. I'm going to get the 24x24x50 and fill it up to where my locker door will close. Mabey buy some shot bags with the $100.00 that i'm not spending on the custom bags. Mike @ Fly High gave part #'s for the plumbing fittings also.
Part# 24x24x50 bag W719
All fittings are per bag.
3/4" fittings Mike says you will need
3x # W736
3x # W740
3x # w742

1" fitting parts list
3x # W743
3x # W741
3x # W746
If you have any questions PM and I will give you Mike's Phone # Great guy to talk to.

Don't forget an anti backflow valve...

I've been debating this for years. A few lead bars and factory hard tanks work great for me. I tend to store quite a bunch of stuff back there and it seems like it would be a pain losing all that space when they are full or having to pull everything off the top to fill them.

Looks great Harry!! Didnt even notice that was you doing this. Not bad for an ol hack from Humboldt!

So once you put 2200lbs in the rear what are you going to put in the rest of the boat? I would assume the 500lb center ballast isn't going to cut it. I have a 2006 215 and was thinking about upgrading to sacs also.
Old     (h20king)      Join Date: Dec 2009       01-26-2010, 8:18 AM Reply
you will not get 2200 pounds.fly high rounds up and i mean way up to find capacity and weight you would take length times width times height 50x24x24=28,800 then divide by 231=124.675325 this is gallon capacity.then multiply by 8.33 this is weight of water per gallon.total weight of a tank full at 50x24x24 is1038.545 thats a difference of 61 lbs of advertised weight to get the 1100 lbs you have to fill sac to size plus add another 7.32 gallons
Old     (camassanger)      Join Date: Oct 2009       01-26-2010, 10:55 AM Reply
Agree. We wont get 1100#. But should get the max allowable (fill up the locker).

Even if it's 800, 900, etc I'll be happy. Anything over 250# makes it worth it.
Old     (mstoked2)      Join Date: Dec 2008       01-26-2010, 12:36 PM Reply
Last year I had 2-400 lbs bags and the stock tank that I would fill and the wave was nice. This fix is more for the convenience than anything. Bonus if the weight is more which I figure it will be. The 400lbs bags were not filled to capacity.
Ryan I plan on putting 1-400lbs bag in the bow to see what happens to the wave.

I'm sure this question has been covered somewhere on this website so sorry this is redundant for anyone but how do you guys weight your 215 for surfing with the stock ballast and how fast do you pull? I'm new to this website so I haven't looked around alot and I just picked up a 2006 215 last summer. Thank you!

Dennis- If I understand your post you have about 1100 lbs in the back on one side and the front ballast(500 lbs) full. Your wave looks awsome! I had no idea my boat could make such a big wave. Now I just need to get a SH** load of extra ballast....

Ryan,
Really you need lead in the Sangers as you can't get enough water in them. Adding lead to my boat made all the difference in the world.

Sangers love weight in the nose. Some times when we go out riding, i weight the nose and nothing else and it still rides beautifully (i have a v210).

Id be interested what size sac's people are putting under the floor. I have a 580lb sac under there, but based on the fill times of the engine system im not even getting near 300 lbs in there. I was thinking a bit more length (ie the ski locker sac) may be a better bet. Lead under the front seats is a must.
Old     (SangerTom)      Join Date: Aug 2010       07-18-2014, 6:44 PM Reply
I have a v210. Not happy with the surf wake I not sure about putting the lead in because of being uncertain how the boat will ride when we are just riding around not surfing. What's your experience?

I know I need more weight in the rear. I'm running a 450lb in the left rear and a 450 on the left rear passenger and the center sac full. How much should I have in the rear if I eliminate the seat sac?
Old     (dp513)      Join Date: Jul 2011       07-19-2014, 9:07 AM Reply
On my 210 I ran About 200lbs lead on surf side. Then I would put a 400 in locker with another 400 like 3/4 full on top of it. Then about 400 lead in the front

The V210 needs a lot of weight in the front, even when surfing. This pic is weighed like this:
220 fixed weight in chain locker at front
160 fixed weight surf side bow seat
600 water in floor
400 water in surf side rear locker
400 fixed weight in surf side rear locker
1 driver, 4 passengers on surf side
11mph, driven on slight curl

I can see that I'm underweighted / running about 600 surf side rear locker, 400 surf side passenger seat, 300 is center locker. With all the other stuff we bring along its too much pain to keep filling more bags. Will try some more weight in the chain locker to see if I can get the wave to lengthen. Thanks for your set up.

Went ropeless for the first time with the v215.
Easily. With only a 550 on surf side seat, stock surf side, a 550 on the floor against surf side seat, and stock front ballast.
I'm still waiting on my 1100's and fittings to swap out my stock tanks.
But I can't imagine what it will be like afterwards!

Port side wave has about a 15ft pocket to surf, while the goofy side is a bit shorter at about 10-12ft.

Anyone in the auburn/Folsom/roseville/Sacramento area have a prop puller I can borrow for 10 mins in exchange for a case of their favorite beer?

I can't wait! I haven't really had much weight to justify an upgrade. But with the added weight, 1 time out was enough for me. The boat was a dog and I was cringing as she was definitely working hard.

Here's one from yesterday. 750 full. 2 400s on seats. 250lbs lead. Center full. 1guy up front on surf side and one guy in back on sun pad. Probaly could have used a little more up front to clean it up. But it was big
