any feedback on these subs?
Old     (riverdave)      Join Date: May 2007       06-01-2007, 1:38 PM Reply
I used to run L5's. I gotta say between the L5 & the L7 I'd pick the L5. Alot of my friends ran L7's and honestly they didn't seem that much louder, but they sure do draw alot more power.

How much power are you running to them? How many are you going to run, and what's your battery situation lookign like?

I am running two 12in. L7's in a sealed box powered by a ZX1500.1 Kicker amp and they pound! You do gotta run alot of power to them though to make them sound good

Ty, setup right, I think you'd have a very hard time finding more boom for the buck. They are durable as hell, and will probably last until you get your next boat. I know I ran the hell out of mine, and they were still pounding 4 - 5 years later! They would be my 1st choice for my next boat installation. Cheap, durable, loud, etc..

I like the idea of running only 750 watts versus 900-1000 for the sub.
i was also looking at the tcsounds.com tc9. it is on sale right now. waht do you guys think?

Are you drunk? Proper sentence structure is key to not be thought of as below the common sense thresh hold.

They are great subs. I had them in a previous car and that is what made me decide to go with them in my boat. If you are only looking at running 750 watts you are only gonna be able to run one 12in. Kicker. The L5 is 600rms and the L7 is 750rms. They are GREAT subs for the money and very durable, I have absolutely no complaints about mine

I am still leaning toward the tc9.

L5's are pretty bomb. Can't go wrong with either.

Tom sounds pretty mad, someone get him another beer. How does bracing effect the overall performance of a sub? Ty,run with kicker, I run a single 15"L7 in (as tom pointed out) a sealed box line-xed with 3/4" plexi front. I can't tell the difference between the L5& L7 subs other than the power they can handle. They both knock. I have talked to kicker for hours about my set up so I know there customer service is great if that helps. good luck!Upload

My girl can not even sit on the observers seat cause that s*it hits and shakes everything so badly. I am far from bragging because I'm sure different people have tons of different opinions but the L7's slam in my opinion. Different people run different setups and most are happy with what they run, so that is what they will recommend. Overall it is all your preference and what you decide on

Ty, if you are anywhere near Sac you could always come catch a pull with me and see how they sound. The only real way to see if you like them is to hear the for yourself

I had an L7 in my car and loved it. I have heard L5s at demos and didn't like them as much.

can't say on the tc-9, but a buddy of mine has a tc-2000 in just a sealed box in his tahoe, sounds very clean, nice deep bass, tc-9 looks like it would be a great choice in a boat though, especially space efficient, personally can't comment on the kickers, as I've never heard any in a boat atmosphere, in cars they do nicely

MIKE,
DO have any problems with your dash rattling a lot?
I have a Diamond Audio D6 12" with 600rms running to it.
It is located by the drivers feet mounted to the floor. And it thumps. But my dash is rattling really bad. I have tried to use Dynamat as much as possible but to no avail. I am thinking of Moving the Sub into the Storage locker behind the passanger seat.

Boat is a Supra 21V if that helps at all

Any suggestions?

E double U,
you can use spray foam up under your dash...it is messy but will help. IMO, the supra dash was bron to rattle...mine was pretty bad with one 10 under the helm. I have the same sub (DA D6 12) under my helm in my new baot (07 SSV) with about the same power...maybe a tad more. and the dash rattle is minimal. Mine is moutned so that it fires out towards the hull.

Hey Tyler,

in your post criticizing Tom's post: "thresh hold" is incorrect, the correct word is: "threshold"

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

For those who own an L7 12" sub (or 2), here's a question for you:

I have 2 L7's in my boat (separate boxes), and each are being run by a Memphis MCD500. If I'm not mistaken, the Memphis amps are rated at 14.4 volts, so I'm probably not quite getting 500watts to each of the L7's (they are 750watts RMS).

I was thinking of changing out the 2 500watt amps to a single 1500.1 amp, which would run both L7's at 1ohm, and give them closer to the 750watts RMS that they are rated for.

Will this provide a noticable difference in the output of the subs? Someone posted above that the L7 is a "power hungry" sub and performs better when given more juice - just how true is this?

thanks

"something was wrong with the meter" -- right... narcissism got the best of you, buddy.

How much more power can the 7s handle?

I am still looking at the tc9 but how do you guys like the diamond subs also? looking to do a single 12". any other recommends?

Mike Pelonio, you posted a picture of your setup, and called it a sealed box? That looks like a BandPass setup to me? The box is sealed, but there's still a "port" on the front side of the speaker?

I also see something on the floor on the back side of the box (towards the walkway) what is that?

Thanks for noticing Mike haha

I have 2 L7 12's in my car with only about 1100 rms getting to them and not much I've heard hits nearly as hard as what I have... that said Im planning to get 2 W6 10' to save some space.

Tom- No I don't think you care! Nice looking boat

There were lots of boats that got up in the 140,s, yes that is loud. You have to remember that the mike is sitting on the drivers seat not far from the subs. There was also a 13w7 that hit 143.8. I have also seen a single L712 hit 148.9, but that was in a car. The meter was correct as it was an USAC event.

To say that the Solobaric is a bad sub is way off, it is one of the things Kicker did to well.

what is the differece in output of the L7 and the L5?

David, I am running 2 12in L7's in mine with the Kicker 1500.1 amp and they really pound! I spent alot of time with Chris from Kicker on actually pairing the speakers up with the correct wattage and building the correct box. I just wanted to make sure I'd be happy with the outcome, and I am more then happy with the end result. It is true that the L5's are a more efficient sub though they are rated at 600rms where as he L7 is 750rms with a peak of 15oo

No problem David. I am extremely happy with the product and the service I have received from Kicker and just want pass that on. I hope I made your decision a little bit easier

just a post for kickers customer service. for my first car sub i bought a 12 in comp and blew it up withen 2 days of sending it back i had the new 05 comp fpor my 03.

in my tacoma right now im running 2 10in kicker comps with i think around 200 rms to each sub. they are rated at 150 rms so power hungry i think is a thing for most kicker audio items
