any opinions about them. I was reading some old threads and some thought you need to add a lot of weight to get a nice wake. Some thought the stock ballast was as nice of wake as the Xstar....so whats the truth?

Jeremy, you see the red one in wenatchee? That is ridiculous deal. He was trying to sell that for 32 in the spring. It sounds like it has almost everything.

yeah, I saw it that's why I was asking about it. Looks like a good deal. I've heard that my 85 Sunsport has the same hull design as the 02 Supra launch. I have good wake, but I need to add quite a bit of weight to make it really good. I was just curious if having the engine in the back solved that issue and it can throw a decent wake as is. I read some older posts that say this model doesn't throw a good wake, but if its even a little better than my sunsport it should be just fine.

...plus it looked like a good deal, but then I saw one almost identical in Cali for 18k. 4k is worth a road trip...

the ssv will be a totally differnt hull than the direct drive launch and old school sunsport. is a very sleek look. low to the water (low freeboard). It most definitely can throw a killer wake and you can actually hide all of the ballast plumbed and underneath the storage compartments. It can hold a bunch of weight. No doubt it is a sweet boat. My only beef with them is lack of storage, but all boats at that time had a lack of storage once you get it all loaded down... Great boat if it is a good deal though...

I've had one since 02. The wake easily is good enough for W2W at 70' without ballast, but you won't get a lot of air that way. Add 2k to 3k in ballast, and it won't be the boat that holds back your progress. The 22-foot (actually, 21'8") DD and VD Sunsport/Launch/SSV all used the same hull for 2001-2005, but the V-drives put out a LOT better wake.

I know my 2003 22SSV (same hull as 2002) with the hippo ballast puts out a great wake..

I had an 04 SSV, same as the 02. I second what diggs said the only reason I upgraded was b/c of the lack of storage and the boat handles chop like crap. The boat throws a great wake. I ran around 2500# in mine.

That may be the best deal I've ever seen. Awesome boat and I bet if you walked up with $21k in hand...

granted the economy was better 14 months ago, but I sold my 04 SSV, loaded for $35K, 280 hours ( it was a good deal at the time)

I traded my '02 for 29K 2 years ago. I probably could have got just north of 31K had I sold it outright. That is a great deal.

You really don't need all that much more above stock IMO to get a great wake. Replace the stock rears w/ the 400lb V-drive sacs and put a 1K in the locker and you're getting booted.

^^^ He can get an 02 loaded for $15k less.... Probably not the ideal thread to post in. Your boat has just become grossly overpriced by asscociation with this thread.

Hawk, I have this boat and it can throw a huge wake. I put some concrete in the nose and some extra weight in the storage, all totaling about 1200 extra pounds on top of the stock ballast. I'm 6'3 and the wake is huge when it's slammed. You can't go wrong for that price. Enjoy.

now on the other side of the coin, is it a good family boat? I mostly ride with my wife and kids and another family. Or is that where storage becomes an issue?

Jeremy, If you don't fill the ballast there is a ton of storage. They way Supra and Moomba do their ballast is with bags in the storage compartments. There is a bag in each of the rear vdrive compartments. With out the ballast filled there is plenty of space. Supra and some Moombas have what is called a playpen front area. Instead of having a walk through to the open bow the observers seat wraps to where the walk through would be. From there all the way into the bow is cushions. This gives you a huge storage space in the front under the cushions. With the ballast empty you can fit many vests, ropes, fenders as well as a couple wakeboards. As with the back once you fill up the ballast though the storage is gone. My boat has the Gravity games sack in front which I believe is 1000-1100#'s. Other than that the only significant storage is behind the observers seat which is fairly good size. In my boat though I have 3 batteries and a 12" sub in a big box so I don't have that space either. here is a picture of what the playpen front looks like.

is that your boat brett? That interior looks pretty sweet too. yeah, I'm familiar with the playpen, that's what my sunsport has now and that's where we put all of our vests and such. So if it still has the storage under bow it should have plenty of space. i fill up my ski locker with sac, boards on the rack, and vests up front...seems to work just fine. My cousin has 06 Mobius LSV? is that right? and even with his 750s on each side, he still has plenty of storage for vests. Are they a lot deeper on the Mobius or maybe just the newer models?

In my boat the Gravity games Sack in the front fills the whole "basement storage" when full other than a little space on each side under the bow cushions for a couple vests or ropes. That is not a picture of my boat, one similar though. That boat might be a year or 2 newer than mine. Mine doesn't have quite as think of cushions for your butt. Mine is in good shape though.

Right now I have 350's in the back of my boat and I have room for a couple fenders and half a dozen vests. I would guess the biggest you could go in the back compartments is 600's if you wanted to fill them completely. I had some get high sports 750's in there and they are too long but right width and height.
