there is more than size of the wake....the steepness and the thickness are other factors. and how the boat is weighted..no two boats are weighted the same way...weighing is a very dynamic preference..

i have a cc 211 and have ridden behind a weighted 210, bu,x2, and xstar.....

the wakes had different characteristics....

the cc will be the steepest with the most "pop" (the 210 will be the steepest, the 211 a little less pop at top)...captain insano(jeff f. has one of the cleanest, ramp, and pop wake i have ridden on a 210)

the mc will be rampy (kevin x-star has the BIGGEST wake i have seem or ridden..it is also very wide)

the bu is somewhere depending on the wedge is close to mc but not as wide.

hope this helps....

03' Super.....

boat overloaded with ballast

900lbs of lead + stock ballast + 7 people, rider is 5'3" riding at 65' at Lake Elsinore on the boats Maiden Voyage....

It's not the size of the wake but how clean it is from the transition to the top. The wake in the second picture was stupid big, not clean just big and firm.

The wake in the first picture is perfect, clean transition, firm, steep, big, with great pop.

i dont get how a wake can be firm or not its all water. i mean when i hit a steep wake it seems firm and when i hit a mellow wake it seems like i punch through.anyway on that 2nd pic the wake looks real nice, and if it wasnt clean you could shorten up the rope a littlebut it looks clean to me.

btw
that rider is only 5'3"

Joe, that pic of your wake does not do it justice. I just got back from the lake with my pro V and I filled the balast and has a few other people on the boat and it was big. You need to take a pic from another angle or something because I know your wake is alot bigger then it looks in that pic. As soon as I get a camera I will take one of mine also, some good looking wakes on here though

Hey Gramps ~ That 2nd pic,you didn't state how fast you were going?!By the looks of that thing you couldn't have been going the speed you were going in the 1st pic.And why are you going with a 65' rope?

The reason why I ??? it is because the 2nd pic you only have 5 more people and 200lb in weight, and the wake does not change that dramaticaly with roughly 1000lbs xtra in the boat.

Something is not right with that pic....either you are not going the wakeboarding speed and also I think there is a reason why that pic was taken with the rider being only at 65'.Sorry of my non-believing of that pic or that SAN is the grand daddy of the wakes.
Old     (psych3060)      Join Date: Sep 2002       04-03-2005, 10:37 AM Reply
As the photographer of that picture, I can safely say that photo does not deceive. Both that rider and I were scared to death that day I am 2 inches shorter). She use to ride at like 21 and she was trying to progress, thus the shorter rope. That was the first day the boat was out on the water and Gramps and crew were trying to find the right weight configuration. Did you notice that Gramps said it was stupid big and NOT clean. You can be a doubting Thomas if you want, but since I took that picture I know the truth.

Big Ed,

Sooner or later we all face up to the fact that there is no steeper or harder wake than the Super Air's.

I love my boat, and think it put's out a great wake, but I would never claim that it can compete with a properly loaded Nautique.

I've ridden behind just about every boat model on this thread, and none compare to the Naughtie's their brutal.
Old     (agfan12)      Join Date: Mar 2004       04-03-2005, 12:47 PM Reply
Ed, 1000lbs does make a huge difference in the wake, run yours with stock ballast, then run it with stock + 1000 you will notice a big difference.

My guess at the rope length is that he was working with someone who was learning how to ride.
Old     (big_ed_x2)      Join Date: Jul 2004       04-03-2005, 1:17 PM Reply
Nobody needs to tell me what 1000lbs does to the wake nor that is the steepest wake...That still doesn't mean it's the nicest or the grand daddy!

Daniel ~ Thanks for the info but I put 3000lbs in my boat and yes I know what it can be.

All I was sayin is that

900lbs in led
stock ballast is about the same..900lbs
7 people and gear 1500lbs

TOTAL weight lead weight, people and gear and stock

3300lbs...I put that in my x-2 almost in just weight muchless people and gear and ....COME ON NOW,IT IS NOT LIKE THAT AT WB SPEEDS!

Can't say I've ever calculated it! Just seen the difference first hand switching from the two boats.}
Old     (big_ed_x2)      Join Date: Jul 2004       04-03-2005, 1:39 PM Reply
I don't think I can put enough weight in my boat for that kind of wake at WB speeds!

Personally I think that it's roughly 300 to 400lbs xtra x-2 needs to get the same type of wake.SAN is about that much heavier dry weight so it all balance's it's self out.
Old     (blabel)      Join Date: Jul 2001       04-03-2005, 1:43 PM Reply
That's probably about right. I think it's the difference in shape between the two boats in general, and the fact that the SAN was weighted improperly in that second pic is what is puzzling you. I think the X2 could easily get that big, but since it has a longer tranny it probably doesn't look it.
Old     (big_ed_x2)      Join Date: Jul 2004       04-03-2005, 1:48 PM Reply
I don't know...it almost seems unreal to me,but well put because of the longer transition it may not look like it.That's something I might have overlooked.

Ok, I was going to say the X-Star wake was the winner until I saw the pic of Grams wake, that is by far the largest wake I have ever seen
Old     (agfan12)      Join Date: Mar 2004       04-03-2005, 5:44 PM Reply
Ed, I wasn't trying to give you info...I was under the assumption that you always sack your boat out with much more than 1000 lbs, I was trying to say that if you run it at stock ballast, look at it, and then add 1000 lbs you will notice a huge difference. Also, keep in mind that the rider in Gramps' post is 5'3...

Also, you know this as well as I do that the wake on the X2 has more of a transition than the SAN

and no where was I calling any boat the Grand Daddy of all boats...I'm an equal opportunity boat whore

Gramps wake looks seriously huge but I m thinking that second picture could be while he is turning , either right at the begininng or right as he straightened out. Either that or the person riding in like 3'10".

Looks good either way Gramps, And just so you know im not knockin the wake or the boat, just looks like that wake looks as big as a double up wake.

Have fun everybody and take an extra set for me while im hung up!!!!!!!
Old     (socalwakepunk)      Join Date: Dec 2002       04-03-2005, 6:54 PM Reply
5'3" + 65' x 22mph = 1 freaking large ass wake.

6'1" + 78' x 24.7mph = 1 maybe not quite as big, but still ridiculously large wake with an incredible amount of pop.

In Gramps we trust!!!!

Thanks for the kind words, ClubMyke. Tell me some good news about your knee.

Bunch of Haters.....

My current set up is as follows:

Stock Team tanks
400lbs of lead in the bow
300lbs of lead in the rear....150 over each rear tank.
500lb bag on the floor against the rear seat
(2) 40lb "POP" product bags on the floor in the cabin for fine tuning from side to side.

My boat sits passenger side heavy due to having 3 big amps mounted to the side gunnel, and 1 (60lb) sub and box under the passenger seat.

I normally have 1 rider and 3 or 4 in the boat, the wake is clean back to 85'. I ride 80' at between 24-25 depending on how I feel, but I also weigh 220lbs so my fat ass doesn't like to be working while the boat drags me around.

I was not turning and the picture is not photoshopped, the wake was that big....believe me I have nothing to gain.

The reason she was riding at 65' is because she was a fairly new rider so there was no need for her to be any further back.

I wish I could remember 2 years ago how fast she we were going but it couldn't have been much more than 21.....but I'm not positive.

Here is another picture of the wake that same day about 30 minutes later.....the rider is 6'7" and we were riding somewhere around 23-24mph.

i would have to say the nicest wakes i have ridden is geoff f(captain insano) 210 & kevin "python" pothier x-star...

they have slightly differnt characteristics...

-kevins is a BIG,smooth ramp and wide..
-Geoffs is BIG, very, ultra clean, and lots of pop..

it is really hard to say which one is better...comes down to preference..

i think the major take away is the "how" they did it so others dont have to go through the long drawn out process of trying to figure it out ( like i am doing it now with my 211)

geoff- no news on the knee yet...MRI tonight...but i can confirm blown acl & mcl...

I don't know guys. I just think that sometimes, even pictures can be a little hard to believe. I believe that Gramps' wake is a monster. It is a SAN, afterall. But, just take a look at this shot.

'99 Outback. No ballest (stock or bags). 4 people in the boat.

Darren;
I like the 215 wake better. it is much smoother in transition and and not as abrupt. the 210 throws a great wake but becauswe of the narrower beam the wake becomes mor abrupt. Leaving the wake of the 215 seems to be more controled (at least for me).

- the ankle (board came off)
- the eye (ran aground in tyler o's 211)
- the feet (muliple deep cuts from getting tylers 211 unstuck
