We have been folding our tower towards the bow of the boat. After noticing some damage to the tower, and the screw holes it occured that maybe we are doing this incorrectly. How SHOULD the tower be collapsed? Thanks!

That is the correct way. Just lay some towels down between the tower and the boat.
