This month's contest is open to anyone with a camera and a strobe (aka flashes/speed lights) or a flashlight (that's right.. an ordinary flashlight)

1) Minimum of one flash/light has to be used (duh) and no limit on the max.

2) You can only use an ordinary flash, speedlight, etc.. (sorry Riley & Ryan, but no fancy smancy ranger's, alien Bees, etc..)

3) Any light modifier is acceptable. You can use a shoot-thru umbrella, reflector, snoots, gobos, etc.. OR you don't have to use one at all

4) The flash/light can be triggered anyway: manually, remotely, CLS, etc.

Must be shot between 8/11 until 11:59pm (PST) on 8/31. Voting will be done by whoever visits the photography forum and the thread. There will be no celebrity judges. On 9/1, voting will take place in this thread. Please vote for the top three pics in the thread. NO HONORABLE MENTION! Scoring goes like this:

1st place = 5pts
2nd place = 3pts
3rd place = 1pt

so let's say hypothetically, someone votes like this:

1. person a
2. person b
3. person c

then another person votes like this:

1. person a
2. person d
3. person b

total would be:

1. person a - 10pts
2. person b - 4pts
3. person d - 3pts
4. person c - 1pt

so, get your cameras & flashes out and go shoot. post 'em in here.

I agree with Scott how will we know if someone cheats with the flashes? Let me know so I can figure how to cheat without you knowing...

What if the flashlight is on the blink mode? Is it a strobe then?

Well, I am going to be out of town until the end of the month so I figured I would just post my photo now. I talked to Dave and he said that I would post a diptych, if people aren't cool with that you can judge my photo off of the action shot. Single strobe held by human light stand.

Shot 15-AUG-2009 @ 11:38 PM in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Long exposure done in camera w/ Long Exposure Noise Reduction turned on, so the total processing time was around two hours.

Used a mag flashlight to light paint the trees for approx 10 seconds/ea

Camera Info: Nikon D700 | 14mm(ƒ/2.8D) | ƒ/4.0 | 3692 sec | ISO 160
