I was wondering what speed the boat should be going to pull a raley off. We have a '92 Bayliner, it has a pretty good wake, but it only has a 4 cylinder. When I cut hard and hit the wake, the rope tends to go a little slack and I end up smacking the water. Any suggestions from you pro's?

I think Dave makes a good point, you are probably not using a non-stretch rope. I also ride on a 4-cylinder but w/ a non-stretch rope and I never have slack. Try getting a new rope and it will change everything. You will actually find you are pulled off-axis sometimes because the friction is so much in the water that the boat speeds up when you leave the wake.

The problem could also be due to the fact that you are cutting to hard at the start of your cut.make sure to use a progressive edge.

I don't have a non-stretch rope, but have thought about getting one. I will look into that. I will work on the progressive edge, b/c i do cut hard. Thanks for the tips guys.

Make sure you stay on edge all the way up the wake. If you come off edge before the top of the wake you loose the energy you've loaded in the line during your cut. You have to stay on edge and just relax your body after you come off the wake. If you relax and you have the rope loaded the raley will happen for you.

Good luck.

There's nothing that hurts more than a Raley gone wrong.

When you get comfortable with Raley's you can try one over your wife.
