Ballast can help, and it can hurt...so many people use huge wakes as a crutch to really learning the proper technique of riding. That being said there is nothing better than hitting the lake on a smooth perfectly calm day and loading the boat up with 2500+ pounds of ballast and just starring down that monstrosity of a wake before you hit it for the first time!
