How much weight (ballast) can my regal I/O hold

I am thinking about weighing my 1996 regal down. How much weight can the floors handle.

start off small. 2-300 pounds here and there, and build from there. make sure and position it properly, not just slapping 1500 pounds in the very back. my suggestion would be two long sacs along the sides of the boat, paying attention to the 60/40 rule.

what the floor can handle is usually not much of a concern. from a stress standpoint, a person standing on the floor is worse than a sack.

what size motor and do you have a 4 blade on the boat? my first boat had a 4.3 liter i/o and with a four blade prop i ran about 1800-2000 lbs in the boat.

We have a power prop with a 4.3

im not familiar with that particular prop. i ran those composite props and loved them. pretty cheap and performed well. but if you do have a good prop with the correct pitch id say dont be afraid to load it down.

I would like to see a 4.3 liter move 2000 lbs of lead. IMO, people tend to over "guestimate." im not saying its impossible, but unlikely.

If I'm not mistaken, a 4.3 is about 190 horses....correct me if I'm wrong. Alot of the V-8's are only pushing a little over 230 hp. I'm not going to get into torque issue's, but I would think the 4.3 could handle the weight with a good prop just fine. My 135 4 banger picks up 6 or 7 guys and whatever extra weight we can find just fine (btw with a speed prop, not even a power pitched prop). That's gotta be at least 1500+ lbs. A 4 banger....imagine that.
